The Lightning will be my first EV. It appears EVs are generally more expensive to insure. I came across Ford Insure. It seems innovative in that it uses the driving data to let Nationwide know your driving habits and thereby reduce your cost of insurance. From what I gather, after the initial 6 month policy, Nationwide reviews your driving and adjusts the rate. I'm curious if any of you MME owners have used Ford Insure? If so, has it saved you money?

I don't like big brother watching me drive and sharing my personal info. Personally, I would rather "overpay" for regular insurance. How often I crash or how much I cost the insurance company in claims should be the only metric used in determining premiums.

I predict the laws of unintended consequences to make the intended increase in safety impact overall numbers negatively due to the fact these data collection schemes can't know the context of the data collected.

A lot of people's cats are going to get run over because people won't want to slam on the brakes and have their insurance premium go up $10 for the month.

You are right about the context. I have a busy intersection near my house. It has a righthand curve just as you are coming into it. If anyone was stopped in the left turn lane my 2015 would set off the crash warning every time I drove through there even though they were in the lane next to me. I doubt the insurance company would be too happy seeing that the computer said I came close to a crash 3 to 4 times a week.

I did the Safeco one for three months. It didn’t agree with my normal braking. Lots of frowny face drives lol. Luckily I keep it off most of the time on my phone app and let my wife do most of it. Still saved $20 a month I think, but I’d bet they have the original number inflated so the “sale” looks better.

We did the progressive snapshot one many, many years ago when it first came out. It saved us and continues to save us like 20-25% off what we paid before. I have my independent broker try to beat it every few years and they never have been able to.

Have about a month and a half left in my 6 month insurance policy and replacing my ‘22 Expedition Limited with a ‘23 Lightning Lariat raised my rates a whopping $3.50!! For two vehicle's the policy was $590 for 6 months.
