Dumb question department. How do you leave the AC running and leave the truck with the doors locked? Think Dog mode. If you leave the truck on or in accessory, and lock the doors, it will immediately unlock the doors and honk the horn twice. What am I missing?

I leave the truck running. Get out. Key&phone in my pocket. Use the door handle button to lock the truck. Done.

Sounds like there's a setting I have different compared to yours.

Edit: I can also use the 7/8, 9/0 keypad to lock without it doing a warning beep.
Key Detection Alert is off in Settings. Turning it on didn't do anything different from what I could tell just now.

Ditto here. I haven't changed any settings from factory as far as the locks go.

Are you locking the doors after you get out of the truck? It beeps/unlocks for me if I lock it prior to closing the door (I leave the keys in the truck and use the keypad to lock/unlock, not sure if that's why).

I thing that may be the secret - I almost always open the door, then hit the inside lock button, and that's when it unlocks the doors and honks the horn. That is OLD muscle memory from prior vehicles that had no way to lock the doors from outside after closing the door (other than the key in the drivers door lock and that only locked the drivers door). I will give that a try...

Bingo! Bingo! That was it. Have to close the door and then lock it from the outside. Tried it both with the button on the door handle and with the fob (I never use the keypad - I do have the master keypad number saved in my password manager if I REALLY needed to use it).

I typed these instructions up in June 2022 when I took delivery. Use this all the time for my lab.

  • AC / Heat On: Be sure AC is set to “Auto” and to, say, 73 degrees.
  • Truck On: Leave the Truck Running.
  • Lights to Off: Turn the dial to the left until it’s “off”.
  • Close Mirrors: This is optional.
  • “Power Down” Timer Off: Turn Off the 30 minute “Vehicle Power Down Timer”: Note, if you shut the truck off during this process, you MUST repeat this step. This step is required EVERY time you start the truck.
  • “Settings”
  • “Vehicle”
  • Turn off the first setting, “Vehicle Power Down” – This must be manually toggled to “Off” EVERY time (because when the car is shut off, this immediately “resets” to “Timer On”.)
  • Manual Cardboard Sign: I put a “Dog Mode” sign over the display. And I’ve pasted these instructions to the back of the sign.
  • Open Door: Dash will say, “Truck is Running.” Ignore or press “OK”.
  • Exit: You can take the Remote OR you can leave the Remote in truck.
  • Lock Truck: Lock the truck by simultaneously pressing the “9-0” and “7-8” buttons on the “Keyless Entry Keypad” (on the door jam.) Confirm truck is locked by confirming the traditional door lock “knobs” are down after closing all doors. If the truck double chirps, it is NOT locked.
  • Confirm Running: Confirm the truck is still running. (The dashboard should look like it does when you are driving.)

I never thought I would love the keypad So much. Program a five digit number that you can remember (like the zip code you grew up with), I put the key in a hidden Faraday pouch. Lock the door with keypad (bottom two at the same time) and go. That 30min power down timer switch to off is REALLY important. Don’t want to lose my retriever. I was thinking of getting a separate temperature sensor that calls my phone as a back up. Anyone use one of those?

Doing all this does it disable the window switches on the front doors?

The reason I ask is my dogs will step on the switches and open the windows. I have the window switches on the rear doors disabled all the time so the dogs don’t open them when driving. Dogs stay in back when driving but come up front when parked.

Sorry, I do not know. My lab stays in the back seat.
