Guaranteed the GTO that beat him was heavily modified and probably cost the owner 100k plus to get it running that fast. The original stock musclecars of the bygone era were fast compared to the painfully underpowered standard cars but still slow to today's benchmarks.

The article alludes to the lack of cornering capability. Time to make a track version!

it also looked
Like the Lightning had a delayed start in that one too. Would have been interesting to see the Lightning vs the Mustang Mach-e!

What Hellion said, The Judge was/is a beautiful car and I love them, but in stock form they struggled to get into the high 13s, even with a Ram Air IV. The stock Lighting ER runs mid to low 12's.

You could also tell from the rear tire set up on the Judge in the video that it was far from stock. The only reason to have that much meat out back is because you have the HP cranked up with mods and you're struggling to put the power down with normal tires.

Also shows the power of AWD as almost all of the competitors were struggling for traction. Probably not the best prepared surface either.

Not to say the Lightning and MME wouldn't still win most of those runs, but it would have been a lot closer if they all had AWD or the starting line was prepared well.

They had a video recently from Hagerty of a Lucid vs a Demon and on a track a lot like the above video which seems to be a road course they use for drag racing the Lucid beat it by basically the entire track. On a proper drag strip though it still lost quite handily, but was way closer.

None of this would be a surprise to anyone that spent time at drag strips, there are 1000+HP rear wheel drive cars that regularly have to launch there which would just be spinning tires on regular asphalt. It makes an enormous difference.
