I got my Lightning registered at the tag office yesterday and was told it is taking 2 to 3 months to get titles mailed out due to a shortage of paper the titles are printed on. A car dealer happened to be in the tag office at the same time and he confirmed it was causing them numerous problems.

I wonder if other states have a similar problem with titles?

Some states have entered the modern age with electronic titles. In Michigan, we bought our 2022 on 5/17 and the title was issued on 5/31, but was our request because we can drive for 2 weeks without title or registration, thereby keeping plates on the old car. Title was received in early June.

Did a car transaction in Virginia recently and was issued the title on the spot. Also paid off another vehicle last month and got the new title within 10 days.

Texas handles it all in Austin and it takes weeks to get one, even when you pay it off. I paid off my 3 earlier in the year so I could sell it outright. Took over 3 weeks to get the new title without the lien on it once the CU released the lien.
