red charging ring

My 2023 lightning keeps getting a charging fault with the led ring being all red, I took it to the dealer to have it checked. They told me they have to replace the battery, and that will take about 3 weeks (mostly to get the parts). This surprised me, the truck is great and showed no signs of an problem. Then all of a sudden it only charged to 63% and got the error. Does this sound right? And is there anything I should have done differently?

It sounds like it could be a bad battery module. There is nothing you can or should have done differently. A small percentage of the battery modules have had issues and Ford replaces them under warranty.

I did have the BCM replaced about a year ago under recall. But they are doing the whole battery pack.

Many will say battery pack, but they are specifically talking about one module. FDRS (their tool that many here on the forum have too) will diagnose and show them the module in the pack that needs to be replaced.

The red ring is how it started for most of us. Ask them to print out the codes set in the computer and the HV (BECM) battery test for you.

There are a few threads on the battery module replacement and on FDRS. It looks like you've been a member here for a while. If you haven't been lurking and watching, a few of those threads will give you more info than you care to know.

It will not be the entire battery pack. It will be a module or two within the battery.
