What does "L" or "M" do on our Lightnings again? I seem to recall reading somewhere it actually performed a useful function. That ManionMakes product looks awesome. I'm gonna pick one up to have as a backup.

Oh my mistake. My shifter is from the E transit and has an "L". I could have sworn it didn't do anything when I pushed it.It activates the 30 minute emergency neutral. It's the same function as the button with the circle arrow and "N" on the center console of the original gearshift.
I think you need to have the dial in "N", then try pushing the "L" button. It brings up a dialogue on my instrument cluster display.Oh my mistake. My shifter is from the E transit and has an "L". I could have sworn it didn't do anything when I pushed it.
Yep, this is correct. I just pretend it means “Neutral Lock”.I think you need to have the dial in "N", then try pushing the "L" button. It brings up a dialogue on my instrument cluster display.
I have the dial from an Escape, but all of the center buttons on confirmed dials should behave the same as far as I recall.
Also got used to a (motorized) rotary shifter from a previous EV so it's second-nature. I see the benefits of both though.I am really torn over motorized vs not. I have never had a motorized knob. 2018 Fusion PHEV, 2021 Mach-E, 2022 Mach-E.
Now have the mod with the non-motorized but the option to switch to motorized. Need to make a decision.
The non-motorized goes into Park when you turn it off, or when you open the door, just like the existing gear shift, or the motorized version. Also got used to a (motorized) rotary shifter from a previous EV so it's second-nature. I see the benefits of both though.
Since I've learned to put it in park before I turn it off, I rarely (never?) really need it to be motorized. I've not found the need to put it in neutral (always hand wash).
I think if I were ever to replace it, I'd get one that isn't motorized. I kind of like the idea of spinning it one direction or another and not thinking about it. Spin a ways to the right, it goes into drive. Spin it a ways to the left, you're in park.
That said, I haven't used a non-motorized shifter, so maybe there's a downside?
I just bought the non-motorized version. Way I see it non-motorized is the way to go: fewer parts to break. Not like you interface with the shifter very much, and you're already used to non-motorized.I am really torn over motorized vs not. Seems like a good option then. The non-motorized goes into Park when you turn it off, or when you open the door, just like the existing gear shift, or the motorized version.
I have had multiple OTAs and performed a couple of FDRS update sessions and Forscan tweaks with my rotary in place. Also had the truck at the dealership and had a pick up and delivery service, also a couple of at home services, all for recalls by my dealer's service techs. No issue with the rotary for anything. I wouldn't take the console and dash apart and put the original in just for service, that's overkill. Is it safe to assume this won’t mess up any OTA or FDRS software updates to the GSM? Gonna pull the trigger on the injection part and was curious if doing a round of FDRS before the swap would be prudent. Obviously going to keep the stock shifter in case I ever need to get the truck serviced
Thanks - just pulled the trigger on a PZ1Z-7P155-AM seeing @AlbertaMike having good luck with oneI have had multiple OTAs and performed a couple of FDRS update sessions and Forscan tweaks with my rotary in place. The only thing I couldn't get done is the original gearshift CSB. I have my original sitting in a box in my garage. I called the dealer and asked if I could bring the old gearshift in and swap it for the new version via the CSB. He said it needs to be installed to perform the CSB. I get notifications in my Ford app every 6 months or so telling me to schedule my gearshift CSB. Not really interested in tearing everything apart and putting it back together, so I ignore the notifications.
