This was the best video I found that shows a Ford machine hooked up to the battery pack.

They can see individual cells on a display and identify voltage anomolies (look at module 2 cell 18)

My dealer insists that they need to verify the problem before they can order parts. All the long saying I have the problem. i challenged them on that but it was like talking to a brick wall. They are going to pick it up in the morning and test it tomorrow. And then order parts. What a Crock! Ford can already state 9 out of 950 require full battery replacement but then say they need to verify my problem. It would seem if you can identify 9 you would also think they know pretty much what has to be done to every individual truck. But what the hell can i do? The answer is nothing. And they say FORD requires them to do this or they can’t order parts.
They came and picked up the truck Tuesday morning. Wednedsay morning Service manger texted and saiid they had to order parts and it would take several days. I’m heading out of town Sunday so i told him to keep the truck and keep me advised of the progress/issues as I’m out town for for 8 days and I was ok if they took their time and fixed it once and for all. Yes I know i can have a loaner but I have 3 cars not including the Lightning and I can only travel with one so I’m good. So jury is out. Will update as I hear more.

FYI, the battery does not need to be removed for that report. It is done with FDRS through the OBD port. I did my own report back in January using FDRS and have two others that the dealer did before and after my repair..

The machine that is hooked up directly is the charger/balancer.
Is there any way to know short of having a great dealer how many modules are bad in your truck or if you are one of the lucky nine? Ford's lack of transparency and the time it has taken to address this issue is the reason I asked them to buy mine back.
Yes, do the BECM test (Battery Health test) as mentioned above. You need a Mongoose and a FDRS license. The report will identify bad cells. What we don't know is the the threshold for doing the entire battery (3 modules, 6, all 9?)

EDIT: I wonder if someone with PTS (@rugedraw) could see the specific action in that system?

Mine is at the Dealer awaiting 3 modules I believe. I’m approaching week 2 without my truck, lucky they got me a Bronco Sport for a loaner on Tuesday. They told me on Tuesday it’ll be another week before I get it back…

Been driving the Bronco Sport loaner for a while. The 1.5 turbo makes me appreciate the instant power of the Lightning. It's amazing how they managed to make a little gasoline engine feels like a non-turbo diesel motor.

Took the truck in for another part replacement (TCU), which they said would be there when I took it in, but was taking another day to arrive. Then since 25S18 was listed, they wanted to start the process with Ford, so OK, it needs to be done. But our truck is just sitting in the back lot for, now, 3.5 days. They say I am next in line for one of their three loaner Mazdas. Trying to find a Ford rental at a reasonable rate for an undetermined amount of time is not worth the hassle. Dealer should rent one of their used cars on their lot to me and make a few bucks that can be charged back to Ford?

Dealer says Ford wants the 12 labor hour inspection first before ordering the replacement modules. One would think that since we were notified, that Ford would already know the bad module serial numbers. Dang, I hope they can see the module serial numbers without having to lift off modules 6, 7, 8 to see 3, 4, 5 serial numbers! Service Advisor complained about having to reach three different Ford entities to get aurhorizations. The June 19, 2025 dealer instructions (see comment #174, 9 pages) says the Special Service Support Center does not need to be contacted if under original warranty, so that should save a bit of time.

But when will these guys get on the job? Frustrating to see no action when one takes the vehicle into the dealer. Ford is losing my loyalty with poor: service scheduling, part quality control, and tech hiring and abilities. But is there a better manufacturer in getting repairs and recalls done? I guess one can just switch manufacturers to show that they are not keeping customers.

I’m in the same situation except they’ve now ordered my recall parts and finally got me a loaner after a week and a half.

Looks like mine needs three modules replaced and some heat shields. Service manager said it would take a week and a half to get the parts and another day or two to do the work. They gave me a loaner and said I could drive the truck until parts are in, or just keep the loaner till done. They have been great to work with so far. I don’t need a truck in the short run, so happy to leave it there till fixed.
