I though I'd try this section for my Issue. On occasion, my Frunk gets stuck when opening, the first latch releases but the second one won't. Very sporadic. Can't replicate it myself. Dealer replaced the latch motor. Still does it. I've learned to live with it. I have a 8mm long handle wrench to reach between the hood and truck when it gets stuck and remove the latch bar. (just 2 screws). The first dealer to address the issue showed me this.
I already know about the red pull cord and it's no help. It won't release the 2nd latch no matter what you do. Odd that when I'm not having the issue the red cord works as it should. 1 pull releases hood. 2nd pull and the hood opens. And no, pushing down on the hood when it happens does nothing, it just bounces back up to the stuck position.
Soooo my question is, can something in forscan force the 2nd latch to release? Any thoughts??
(I hate that there is no dedicated manual release lever on the frunk like a normal vehicle has, very very stupid poor design- maybe that's the answer, a special bent tool to reach in and down to move the 2nd latch)

Might be the replacement part is defective or not aligned correctly.

BTW, I moved this thread from Forscan to Issues section.

there's also the idea that while the hood has upward pressure on it, after the first release, the second 'latch' will not so easily release... try pressing down slightly on the hood, first, then try the second release.

I might add that one time it happened late at night and the next morning I just pushed down on the hood and it closed. I don't think its alignment related. Its more like a computer glitch thing. I have read that someone had similar issue and fashioned a long pole to reach in and poke the emergency release button, then it opens. I'll try that along with looking at making something to reach down into the mechanism at the front to force open the 2nd latch.

If you think the BCM and Frunk control modules are glitching out, try pulling the low voltage battery 12v negative terminal leave off for 20-30 minutes, then reattach, you will definitely need to do a manual Frunk closing, then test the automatic open and close from the cabin or FOB to see if that improved logical controls.

Sometimes, if I have an overly rushed helper push the button and then try to lift the hood, it will not release the safety latch and gets stuck. Gently closing it and pressing the button again works for me when this happens.
@hturnerfamily called out the possibility of upward pressure. That can be caused but overstuffing the Frunk or by impatiently lifting on it before it fully unlatches.

yup.. I hear ya.... nope. All the fancy tricks don't work. Push down..pushing the button..lift up gently..push to one side..push to the other side...overstuffed--nope, nothing it there except a level 2 charger in the cooler pit covered with the lid. 3 different dealers tried all the fancy moves.. nothing. They have all had to remove the hood latch to get in. (like i said earlier, I can't believe the engineer that didn't have another manual latch put in) The next time this happens I'll try to post a YouTube video for all to see the craziness.

That sucks. It is suspect since it has happened with two different latch mechanisms. I know the frunk control module shuts down after 30 minutes or so. If it was left in the 1/2 latched state for that long, it may cause goofy things like this.

Maybe try one more thing. If you have a helper, try to have them gently rest on the hood to take the pressure off the latch, then try the manual release mechanism (you need to pull it twice).

I need a trained mouse to get in and push the emergency button for me. I'll just put peanutbutter on the button, that should work. :)

Intermittent problems suck - especially if you can't recreate them. I would guess the dealer has checked the hood and latch alignment, but that would be my next step. This is what I would do:
  • Lubricate the latch as per @RLXXI 's post.
  • Verify the hood set posts are not too high - maybe turn them down a turn or two, provided it doesn't throw the hood/fender alignment out too much and see if that solves the intermittent problem. If it solves the problem but your hood sits too low, then raise your latch a smidge and put your posts back to where they were.
  • Verify your latch bar isn't bent and is perfectly aligned with the latch opening. You can use a video pointed at the latch as it comes down to get a good view that you can step through.
  • Verify your latch bar wear points are right in the middle of the latch bar. Maybe use a sharpie and cover the latch bar marks, then close and open a few times to see the current latch marks. Mine are pretty much dead centre of the latch bar. If not, move your latch forward or backward the right amount to centre it.
  • Verify your hood doesn't get sucked forward or backward as it closes. Mine gets pulled straight down by the latch. If it gets sucked back, move your latch forward a smidge and vice versa.

It most likely isn't closing all the way properly and getting jammed. Possibly the bumpers are too high.

Yours isn't a common problem, take it back to the dealer if it's under warranty.

Yup out of warranty. That's not happening. $$$$.$$ to diagnose and bandaid repair. Nope.
My brother who can take apart a 38ft motor home and put backtogether will be the next REAL repairman to work on it for me.
