That would be fair if they charged for their time. The thing is for a problem that has happened many times before I go for my diagnosis, I expect to be a database across U.S. and even Canada that as soon as the tech types the symptoms gives him the likely causes, hours of labor and parts needed. First few times when the problem is new the time it takes to diagnose may be 1 hour any time after that it should not take more than 10 minutes including the time of staff that make the appointment.
Doesn't work like that, it works on flat rate time.

What ever a specific job takes according to a labor guide is how long it takes including diagnostic time. It's already in print.

The give on that is if the job calls for let's say 8hrs and the tech takes 20 hours, he still only gets paid 8hrs conversely if he does the job in 1 hour, he still gets paid 8hrs.

Labor rate is set by each shop the time is set by the book and applies to ALL shops.

SLTS, service labor time standards under warranty are worse. The main reason I left the dealership 21 years ago. Warranty paid me 8hrs for a job that took 24hrs. The kind of job I did all the time and am good at. Ford didn't care, they say they're only paying so many hours that's it regardless if it's fair or not.

My Bad, I had this assumption that a "Known Failure Part" would have a replacement that has solved that Known Problem LOL how silly of me. They may be more interested in just getting the truck out of warranty than fixing known problems with components...actually I hope they did change the design of the part.
Anyone able to check if the original coolant valve shares the same p/n with the replacement?
Based on things like the rear light bar fiasco, I’d bet nothing’s changed on this valve.

Reason x*1000 why I leased mine and would never buy an EV.

It was already a $75k truck. Why should we have to spend another $5k or more to protect against these exorbitantly expensive repairs, none of which can be done at home like you can do on an ICE vehicle? Lease it, drive it for a few years, get another one. Never worry.
Like you, I leased mine, as a test drive so to speak and was hooked after day 1 lol. I knew that very day this truck wasn't leaving my driveway for a very long time, I bought a Ford ESP out to 100,000 miles for things that lose coverage at 36k and it was only $1,1xx.xx The other factor in my decision to keep it is my ability to fix most things that might let loose after warranty, I'll know more at a later date.

No more miles that I drive, it'll be like my other truck, a 13 with 31k on it.

The Lighning ticked a lot of the boxes for my long-term ownership:
- Alum body panels = no rusted out wheel wells/rockers/cab corners.
- No 10-speed transmission to worry about.
- No engine issues and no long term ICE maintenance.
- No gasoline to purchase. Ever.
- provides electrical back up to my home and business
- super capable truck for short trip hauling, comparable to a 3/4 ton, and far more comfortable.
- super-car level performance, at a half-ton pick up price.
- pretty simple drive system Batt-Motor-Charger not a lot of parts really. Should be easy to repair.

Best part - a super online forum of enthusiasts to provide support when needed.
Couldn't improve on that if I tried. (y)

Anyone else considering a pre-emptive swap out of the coolant valve BEFORE it gets stuck, while you're 300 miles from home...the "known problem" part gets my attention, as does the $100 part.

For those of us with a shop, tools, lift, time - why wouldn't we plan this sooner than later?
I went out and decided to look deeper into the rabbit hole on my truck and I don't see that valve, I think it has something to do with the new heat pump system late models come with. Couple pics for ref, right and left side of lvb, it would seem the coolant flows into an aluminum heat exchanger of some sort in the 2nd pic.

That explains a lot.

Can you share what kind of coverage you got for your extended warranty?

10yr/36k miles. In 10 years there won't be 36k miles on it, my 2013 only has 31k in 12 years. That's why I opted for the lowest mileage and longer time.

I did opt for the extra led, 1st day and enhanced rental and pick up return/mobile services all total $1,195.
