Have to take a trip from Salt Lake to Denver this week (Lariat with ER). Trip Planner has me going through Spanish Fork Canyon with stops in Green River (153 miles), Grand Junction (100 miles) and Edwards (136 miles).

I haven't done much winter driving in the mountains and am curious if there are range concerns with this route?

That Grand Junction to Edwards stretch, figuring you'd only be at 80% starting out, would be my concern. You'd need to do better than 1.3 mi/kWh with quite a bit of elevation increase. If it's frigid, and especially if there's a head wind, that could be close.

Do the math on each stretch and watch your efficiency. If you are brushing up against the efficiency you need, knock 5 mph off your cruising speed. As little as 5 mph can make a huge difference. Slow and steady is important.

Also look at bailout options. There's an EA at Glenwood Springs where you could make a quick stop to bridge the gap, as an example. All that said, it can definitely be done. Just takes paying attention.

I live in Glenwood and I travel to Denver quite a bit. In the Summer my ER, I can easily make it to Denver on 90% SOC without charging. However, in the winter, I usually stop in Edwards or in Georgetown for 10-20 mins to feel comfortable getting to Denver. I would say stop at the EA at Target in Glenwood and try to get to 80% at the very least. There is a slight incline all the way to Edwards so you will be around 1.5 mi/kWh.

That's awesome to hear, Brian! We love to hear about the adventures everyone is taking with their F-150 Lightning!
