Tire rotation is free at Discount Tire.
Washer fluid is 99 cents.
Wiper blades last a few years.
Cabin air filter takes 10 minutes to change and is $20.

Some people spend, some people save.
How you get free tire rotation?

You do you. Unfortunately no shops around me do free rotations without purchasing the tires from them first.

That said, you forgot to mention how much a break job is and how much replacing shocks cost? I did the last brake jobs on my X5M, Raptor and Excursion. It's a pain in the ass and takes at least a couple hours if nothing goes wrong. And when it goes wrong(like it did on my raptor last time), I'd rather have the dealer just fix the blown caliper under the 8 year warranty rather than say it's not covered because the brake job wasn't done to Ford's specs, causing a failure.

I'm very much a DIY person, but I also have a realistic outlook on value and what things cost and will cost as prices continue to rise(how much was a brake job 8 years ago vs today?).

As for saving, I'm quite good at that. :)

I last replaced shocks on a 1982 Jeep CJ. Never had to since then.
I have never blown a caliper in my life. I can tell you that EVs don't go through brakes (sp). The main issue with EV brakes is that they rust from lack of use. I did pay to put rear brakes on my 2010 Fusion Hybrid for that reason, but it was like $350.

Of course the thread is about getting an extended warranty, not the maintenance plan. On EVs, the maintenance plan is even a worse deal for consumers than the extended warranty.

I suppose I drive a lot and use my vehicles in ways most don't. For me it makes sense, for you it may not. If you've never done a brake job yourself, you wouldn't have had the opportunity to blow the seals on a new caliper. It's quite fun. You end up having to replacing the new pads you just put on, along with the caliper because of brake fluid contamination.

I've also replaced shocks on most of my vehicles because I tow occasionally and often have 1000lbs+ of camera/lightning equipment in the back.

For a garage queen, the maintenance plan is a total waist of money. For someone that uses their vehicle, I'd argue the value is there. The same goes with the extended warranty. I recognize it's a gamble... But I've had warranty companies cover $30K jobs on my BMW when the engine blew(I know, I know, that won't happen on EV...). To me it's cheap insurance and increases the resale value down the road.

Good luck with your lightning, hopefully you don't have any issues and you can tell me I told you so in 8 years! :)

I purchased the Premium Care Extended Service Plan with all options. My dealer matched the best online price that I received. The FordPass app Service > Warranty section has a listing for Ford Protect Extended Service Plans, but my ESP does not show up there. A note states to contact the Dealer if it is not appearing. The dealer confirmed my ESP, but said they could not do anything to help with the app. I tried to set up a Chat under Help in the app, but it must be down for the Holiday. Is anyone seeing their ESP in the FordPass app Warranty section?

I had this problem and this fixed it for me:

Make sure your name as registered in your Ford Pass app matches exactly with your ESP sale paperwork.

I bought an extended warranty on my 2018 F150 and bought it basically at cost and I wish I wouldn't of. I had 75,000 bumper to bumper and all that went bad was a radiator cap and instead of dealing with the wait times and upselling they do I went to AutoZone and paid 18 dollars screwed it on and saved myself 2 hours of my time. Extended warranties are like casinos if the dealership didn't make money they wouldn't be in business. I'll pass

A vehicle service contract is an insurance policy. Nothing more and nothing less. Assuming that your house is paid off (assuming that you own your home) think about your homeowners insurance. We purchase it and hope we never need it. But when you do, it’s there because of the potential for a catastrophic loss.

Nope I'm required to have homeowners insurance due to terms of my mortgage That's not the same argument.

And I said assuming that your home was paid off — meaning no mortgage. I realize that lien holders will require full insurance on cars and homes if they are pledged as collateral for a loan so that they can protect their interest.

This is an absurd argument.

An extended warranty is insurance against a repair that you cannot afford. It's not insuring an asset for replacement. If the truck engine seizes, you get a new engine, not a new truck. And, the potential loss you have to absorb is very small, as compared to a home.

If your home burns down, whether you have a loan or not, if you didn't have homeowner's insurance then you're either very rich, or a moron. And even the very rich should be smart enough to ensure liability coverage so they aren't sued and lose everything. The scale of a potential loss on a home is huge as compared to repairs on a vehicle.

I bought the Ford extended warranty and extended service for my 2021 Platinum and had to argue with the dealer every time I took it in for service. Was supposed to get a loaner for any service, never happened. Tried three different dealers. Getting a refund for the plans after trading in the platinum was like pulling teeth. Ford eventually sent me a Visa Debit card loaded with the refund but it rarely works when I try to use it.
