My 2010 Ford fusion hybrid had a hard drive built into the infotainment center that I could basically burn them to, hard drives/SSDs are relatively inexpensive now so it wouldn’t be a huge cost to add them.

The thing I don’t understand is, what are these people thinking? Do they not like Elon so they key some random person‘s car to get back at him? His company made the vehicle, yes but he does not own the vehicle???
I guess I just think logically maybe that will be my downfall?

Let the OP dream of features other manufactures have with visions of maybe someday Ford will follow suit. BMW for instance (to pick a non-Tesla example) uses the cameras in their EV's for dash cam video grabs and it takes pictures when the alarm goes off...does not kill the battery.

And camping mode or dog mode would be wonderful so you don't have to "leave the truck running and AC on" when you are camping or want to keep your cabin cool when away for a while.

Need more of this. Everyone should also be filing civil lawsuits on top of the criminal lawsuits. I'm also in agreement that this is closer to trying to intimidate people of their purchases, which could really up the criminal charges.
So weird you didn't see a bunch of prius's (unsure the plural for pruis) getting attacked when people were making fun of them in the early 2000's. Hell, even when charge stations were being 'attacked' 5+ years ago, it was just people parking in the spots, not flippin firebombing them.......
I agree. So much of this is happening to tesla, but we also seem to have a lot of individuals that simply hate all EV'S so much they key our lightnings too. Anyone that tries to destroy someone else's property are mentally ill in one way or the other. Certainly unstable at the least

The bottom line, these people are mentally ill, very unstable and dangerous.

I tried something similar using my truck’s cameras, but the system times out and shuts down after a bit. Even with power on or accessories mode, it doesn’t stay active. What worked better for me was mounting one of the best action cameras in 2028 behind the windshield. It runs on an external battery pack and loops footage all night without tapping into the truck’s systems.

Tesla sentry mode works great but does generate a slight draw on the battery.
I would not call 7-8kWh / day a "slight draw". That's what we've observed leaving sentry mode on while away from the house. Recent updates claim to have cut this down some, but we haven't re-checked it. Keeping most of the car on just to process and store images is very silly and wasteful....

There is almost NO draw from a Tesla battery for Sentry mode. Real world proof.

2023 Performance Y (82 kWh battery) - June 30 in Dallas. 97 degree day. From before 7 AM to after 5 PM. Sentry and Cabin Overheat Protection were both on all day.

Two screen shots from morning - one showing HV SOC and then estimated miles. Then at end of day SOC and estimated miles.

Used 6% (4.92 kWh) of the HV battery which is an estimated 17 miles of range - 10 hours outdoor sitting on the pavement. Sentry mode may have consumed 1 kWh, but likely even only part of that. Cabin Overheat - AC running all day consumed the majority of that.

6:47 AM: first pic % and second showing miles (yep all you have to do is touch it in the App and it will change for you)

Would love a sentry type of mode on this truck, can not be that hard for Ford to implement

I tried recording with my Lightning’s cameras too, but sleep mode kicks in so fast it's hard to keep it going. I messed around with some iphone gimbals for smoother video when parked, especially during meetups, but they’re better suited for manually recording stuff than relying on the truck’s built-in system. Would be great if Ford opened up more access to those feeds via the app.

They know whether it would or would not. That's why they don't currently offer it I would presume. Telsa drivers seem enamored with it, and dog mode. Then they complain the videos aren't clear enough to identify anyone, and it kills the battery...
This x1000.

Tesla has Sentry Mode
Rivian has Gear Guard

I've recorded (and still do) on them regularly. But I don't think I've ever had a need to pull up the video to review and submit it for any reason whatsoever.

What I have realized is it annoys me when I'm at the airport and forget to turn it off. Returning to find it's drained while taking videos of people walking by. The worst is on the Tesla, over the course of a week with Sentry, Overheat protection, etc. on it was not uncommon to return after a week having lost 50% of my charge (older, small battery)

I love the fact that our truck can sit there for a week and I get back with the same charge, no surprises.

I tried this by leaving the truck on in accessory mode, but it timed out after a while. Would be cool if there was a way to keep cameras recording longer.
This may be a place to apply AI ... Actual Intelligence. Keep the cameras in standby mode until accelerometers detect movement of the vehicle, and then activate the cameras.

My son drives his Tesla daily and loves Sentry mode even though it is a strain on the battery

I agree with everything you said here but it would be nice to at least have this option since we have such nice cameras on these Lightnings

I've had 3 Tesla's and recently proven that there is little strain on the Tesla battery for Sentry mode. Most of it is likely from the Cabin Overheat Protection. You also have to remember the 3 and Y have batteries a fraction of the size of our trucks. So overall percentage would be even less. Sentry mode is worth it all day long, but you won't ever get it on the Lightning.

This fall when it cools down and Cabin overheat doesn't kick in, I'll get new numbers for Sentry mode alone.

This has been my #1 request to have a sentry mode, the coding to make it happen should be simple, direct it to one of the usb ports and keep a thumb drive in it for storage. Only issue I see is the tiny lvb they use in these trucks, might need to upgrade that as well ,looks like a larger 50ah LFP battery would slide right in.
