An update - my dealer was able to get Ford to approve covering most of the cost, somehow. My portion is $247. It will be warrantied for 2 years/unlimited miles against workmanship/and or defects. That part worries me because no one has admitted the current unit is failing due to a defect, right? But I don't have much choice as the reverse lights are pretty much shot now.

My dealer also just called me to tell me that they got Ford to comp the part and now I'm just out the $200 in labor. Glad they did the right thing but this shouldn't be a fight

It may not be the worst outcome, but it shouldn’t be an issue at all. It’s obvious that they aren’t fixing the issue they’re just replacing the part with another one that’ll fail in a similar manner over time.

Agreed. I don't see how the NHTSA recall isn't reopened for this, its obvious the issue has not been corrected.

So, it gets more interesting.

I was trying to get the truck in tomorrow to get it replaced, and the dealer said to hold up, because apparently the part number has been superseded, and now requires replacing the camera as well. He is getting back with Ford on next steps. I have also asked for the new part number for research purposes.

I'll keep this thread informed of what happens!

For reference, it looks like the last replacement I had done back in 4/2025 they listed the following parts:

NL3Z 13434B - LENS AND REFLECTOR ASY 1
PJ7Z 19G490C - CAMERA - PARKING
N807673S - RIVET - BLIND 2

Back in 9/2023 when the original recall (23S30) replacement was done on mine they listed the following parts:

NL3Z 13434B - LENS AND REFLECTOR ASY 1
JU5Z 14A163C - RETAINER - SPECIAL 6

I see. I have only ever had one replacement done under 23S30. So it will be interesting to see if I am getting the same part as you did in April. I cant remember if you said your latest one is bad too?

I am also going to ask the old part be shown to me so I can take a lot of detailed pictures. It would be nice to see if an obvious entry point for water could be identified.

I have a 2022, and the rear light bar has been replaced 3 times. The last time was back in April and I noticed the other day that the water is back. My warranty ends in January and I worry this is never going to be fixed. The last time it happened my dealership told my to wait to get it replaced. I did until the light bar failed.

I was lucky and got a lemon law buy back on my original 2022 Lightning due to the light bar issues. I bought a light mile used 2022, since other than the light bar issues I do love the truck. I am definitely concerned that this will be an ongoing liability and cost moving forward constantly needing to continuously get these replaced. Especially if at ~$1500 every few years.. So much for lower cost of operation!
