Will You be upgrading to the Lightning EREV?

Will You be upgrading to the Lightning EREV?

  • Yes - The Lightning EREV range extender will be useful

  • No - The current Lightning provides sufficient range/capabilities for long term ownership

  • Unsure - Will have to see the final Lightning EREV specs/pricing

  • Other - Will leave the Lightning for something different (other brand EV truck, gas F-150 etc...)

I will most likely drive until I get close to 100k then sell and get a GM truck EV. After dealing with Ford on warranty issues and repairs in general I just dont trust them outside of that EV warranty and they have done nothing to earn another purchase from me.
Yeah, unless Ford drops another BEV truck, I’ll likely be going Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo in the next few years.

I'm pretty sure there are federal regulations that require them to carry replacement parts for something like 10 years. Also, Ford themselves have sold quite a few Premium Care extended warranties and will continue to offer that until the last 2025 Lightning is sold so their Dealers will still have to provide service for quite some time.
I get that but if you read my post about issues with warranty of ptc heater you would understand where im coming from. I do not trust in ford or dealerships to do what's right.

The thing that kind of shocked me was that they said the gas engine supplies 130khw to the battery. That’s like super charger level. I don’t think I realized an EREV engine generator could be that powerful. So I guess this is the direction Ford is going with a massive v6 in the frunk as well.
130kW (I don’t think you meant kWh) is 175hp.

Would I upgrade to the EREV? If I have to put gas and go back to oil changes, air filters maintaining a cooling system I'd just go ahead and pick up a Coyote powered truck or maybe a Raptor with the money saved. Let's face it an EREV with both Batteries and gas engine and all its support needs will be at least 12 to 15k more than a ICE truck. Maybe a Silverado or possibly an R2. But future EREV Lightnings will be dead to me.
