You guys would rather argue than admit you are confused about two-pole circuit breakers. Three circuits at 240 volts requires three, two-pole circuit breakers. To a layman, that looks like six circuit breakers. I have a gas tankless water heater, way better than any electric solution.

Ok, so where is all this nuclear power suppose to come from?
Right now drawing 40 amps level 2 is a stress on our grid here locally with approx 6 homes on a single transformer.

Agreed, we have a property with 17 homes and two underground transformers on the street. The street has 13 EV's (11 Tesla's, 1 Ford, 1 Chevy) during the summer months with AC's running and cars charging, in the after work hours you can hear the transformers running through the evenings.

is the power lower cost after some late hour? - ie Time of Use (ToU rates) that would incentivize the EV's to charge say 11pm - 7am when most of the other loads are off, or at lower demand (even A/C is less at night than during the day, and is a cycling load while the EV's are a steady constant load.

SoCal is kinda famous for their high cost of electricity, lower overnight rates would be the ticket to get the EV's to shift to later hours of the day.

SCE prime discount plan for EV's is about 30 cents between 9pm and 4pm and 60 cent from 4pm to 9pm. There are other schemes that SCE has but this one is one of their better deals for EV charging.

heat pump water heater on the other hand uses SIGNIFICANTLY less energy, being up to almost 400% more efficient. Installing one in our house dropped our energy bill by around $100, offsetting about half of the cost of charging the lightning (~2,000 miles per month). Even with 6 people in the house we have never kicked on the regular heating element.

Where are you located where heating water for your house exceeds $100/mo and charging ~2000 mi/mo costs $200/mo?

That isn't a question of where though is it, it's a question of how much hot water we use.

We have 6 people under one roof with 4 liking long showers and one regularly taking hot baths. Over a third of our electric bill previously was the water heater.

Actually it was a question about your electric rates per kWh.

Here in Florida our kWh rate runs about 13 cents/kwh. Local utility has a deal for unlimited EV charging all weekend and off peak hours M-F for $31/mo Or $38/mo if you have them supply the ESEV and install it. https://www.fpl.com/electric-vehicl...zbrZr2Vcc_yWfj6MLVWQXKJ4IY6srenBoCeMwQAvD_BwE

Makes sense, I forget folks have unique plans. Ours is straight consumption, no TOU or charging plan, just 8 cents per kwh (and about double that after fees)

We don't subscribe to the the special plan here because we have 3 EVs and 2 houses we travel between. Checking current rates the over 1000 kwh per month rate is totals 14 cents per kwh with all fees included.

The highest usage is the 2 ACs. a 5 ton at the house and a 3.5 ton at the cabin .
Next is EVs , at about $100/month (1,500 miles a month)
next is Pool Pump $55/month. Graph show it a $20 but it is actually $55
The Water heater about $30/month

Non-fuel:
(First 1000 kWh at $0.096990)
(Over 1000 kWh at $0.107050)
Fuel: (First 1000 kWh at $0.024080)
(Over 1000 kWh at $0.034080)

Our Water Heating is a minimal portion of our electric bill. This is usage at our main house, peak heat of summer, last August. Our Cabin runs about another $70 in summer.

3-EV's and they still use way less power than the Cooling loads, are these heat pump systems for cooling?
Our ducted Heat pump does 3-season heating and cooling using a lot less energy than on EV.

local "ultra-low-overnight" rate here is just 2.8cents per kWh - plus fixed fees and some non-overnight uses we average 7.4 cents per kWh all in cost on the monthly bill. About $125/mth during winter and less than half that during summer - when the solar takes a good share of the load.

We have solar panel set up with 115kWh house-battery, this allows over-night rate charging and day-time use during winter months when the sun is not cooperative.

Normal daily use of the Lightning requires 25-30kWh of overnight charging (when the sun isn't doing the charging) so this translates into a daily driving cost of 30kWh x 7.4Cents = $2.22/day.
Sure beats the cost of the weekly trip to the gas stations we used to do... :) :) :)
Actually I don't miss those stops at all.

Sounds to me like it's fully developed and ready to roll out:

"BYD plans to change that with its new “Super E-Platform,” which has officially been unveiled and offers 1,000V and charge rates up to 1,000 kW."
"unvailed" and "shipping" are two completely different things.

Last i really dug into it, and before the Lightning, we ran around 26,000 kwh a year, running between 1800 and 2500kwh per month. Our heating and cooling is Geothermal, and aside from Jan and Feb when emergency heat may kick in, is relatively efficient.

As for usage I run a Sense energy monitor on the panel in the house and amongst all usage the water heater was averaging around 33%.

At the same time I added the HPWH I added a buffer tank to the geo so I probably gained some efficiency there too although it never gets warm so I don't know how much.

Yes, At the 3200 sf house we have a single 3-zone setup with a 5 ton ultra high efficiency inverter system. It has a published 21 SEER. We are also in very HOT Florida near Tampa area.

The remote cabin has a 3.5 ton single speed AC. The cabin is only 1400 sf and is very well insulated.
