It's a crazy policy but I understand their attempt to cherry pick new customers with no claims.

Years ago we had my car broken onto in a mall parking lot. They stole my radio, some "parts" in a box and broke the passenger window. That was 3 insurance claims.
1- Glass breakage compensation claim
2- Claim to replace the radio and repair the dash damage.
3- Homeowner's claim for parts stolen out of the car.

My agent warned me that to be careful not to have an additional claim that year because State Farm may drop me for excessive claims. HUH?

Just this week I spent $29,600 for Hurricane damage after Hurricane Milton. It seems I didn't have the optional pool cage addendum to cover the replacement. HUH?

Picture of Hurricane damaged pool cage.

That’s so sad smh

Here's an update for those following:

Yesterday Allstate sent me the following notification via text:

Your vehicle has arrived at our Copart facility. It typically takes 2-3 days to determine the vehicle's value. Once completed, you will receive an email to log into our secure portal to finalize your settlement.

I've yet to receive anything that says they've totaled my truck, but this implies that they have.

I've been checking my FordPass app periodically and noticed some activity today. Apparently they tried to connect it to a charger, and for several hours the app showed the vehicle running, but there was a charging error. Now everything on the app shows completely normal, like it's just a normal day parked somewhere else. Location services still work and I can see that it is at the Copart facility. SOC still shows 74% which is what it was at the time of the crash.

I expect that the next communication from Allstate will be their initial settlement offer. I’m expecting a low offer and I will be making a counter offer...

When the offer comes make sure it includes, Sales tax, dealer fees, Licensing fees etc for a replacement.

Of course. In addition to that, I’ll be negotiating for reimbursement for my fuel expense, my HOV toll charges (With the Lightning I got free HOV lane access, but now I have to pay), and rental reimbursement that I was entitled to but didn’t use. I will also lose my 0% financing.

Update: I received the following text this afternoon:

Our review of your damages is taking longer than expected. We are working on finalizing your vehicle's value and will email it once the review is complete. We apologize for this delay.

Translation: Our adjuster took a 4-day weekend to go boating at the lake. šŸ™‚

Update: I got a call from the adjuster just as I was stepping into a meeting. I didn’t have time to talk, so I asked for a quick update. I was stunned when he said:ā€œWe’ve determined that your vehicle is repairable, what shop do you want to do the work?ā€ 🤯 🤣

I just replied that we’ll need to discuss it and I’ll call back after my meeting. I called back only to get his VM.

So here are my thoughts. Any additional advice from the hive would be appreciated:

1. Will Ford warranty the truck after this? Doubtful. I’ll be checking with Ford for verification.
2. Who’s gonna buy a used/crashed/repaired EV with questionable warranty coverage?
3. What about the Diminshed Value? They’re gonna need to compensate me for that.
4. Who’s gonna certified that the battery, motor, all electronics, etc are not damaged? How can I be assured there’s no undetected damage that will cause a future failure? This would all need to be done by a qualified Ford Dealer and they would have to sign off on it.
5. I can’t image repairs will take less than 2 months. Now they’re gonna need to get me a rental (truck) for that period of time.

Seriously Allstate? You think all this is gonna be cheaper than totaling it?! 🤨

Allstate! I quit them last year after their taking 9 MONTHs to settle out a simple repair on a Nissan.

I'd absolutely insist on FORD doing and certifying the repairs...and I'd push really hard on making them give you a trade-in offer after repair that is equivalent to one that they would take in on trade otherwise.

Then...I'd consider trading the damned thing to Ford for something without the wreck history. I'd push really hard on Ford to make it right, since Allstate is going this direction.

My $0.02....I'm sorry you are going through this, Gary.

1. I’d have a dealer that has a bodyshop that’s Ford certified repair it.
2. Idk about that. People buy all sorts of things.
3. Yes, if they repair it.
4. See 1. U can also have a post repair inspection, that you’ll more than likely need to pay out of pocket for.
5. Ur the claimant, ur entitled to a rental until the repairs are completed since ur vehicle is not safe to drive.
Whatever the insurance company wrote for, the body shop will definitely add more onto. So it still may be a total.

Yeah, I prefer to be in collision with people who have USAA or State Farm lol jk
Definitely wanna avoid getting hit by people with Geico or Progressive o_O lol (I have Geico for my Lightning & Progressive for my bikes, cause they’re the cheapest around me)

4-1/2 years ago I had a not at fault accident with a EV that was borderline totaled. The car didn’t have a lien on it so I was the sole decision maker. The shop suggested that they do an assessment of damage estimate. Ask the insurance company for a check for the damage and sell/trade the damaged car to them. They told me that they would give me enough trade in value on the damaged car. The trade-in plus the insurance check would more than cover the difference buying a brand new car. The shop said they had several ā€œbig hitsā€ they were working on and really didn’t want to do the repair.

I didn’t want to go that way. We had a 3 way call with the insurance adjuster, the shop and me. The body shop told the adjuster they thought there was a buckle in the roof and the roof may have to come off. That put the damage well over the 70% number the insurance company used to total it.

So they agreed to total it. I received a settlement check and I I bought a new EV, same model one year newer for $6000 more. After factoring in the $7,500 tax rebate I came out $1500 ahead and a brand new one year newer same vehicle.

The damaged car was sold on copart auction for 60% of new value. The battery pack was pristine.

Have a Ford Collision center so the work. Few months ago, my truck got backed into. Insurance tried to rush me to one of their approved shops, but I decided to go to the local Ford shop where the dealership handle VEs. Once there found out that if they did the work, they used OEM parts (more expensive), but would not affect warranty. So that is whar I demanded from insurance on those grounds and they immediately caved. They knew.
So I assume if you do likewise, your warranty would be fine. Good luck.

I also found a Ford Dealer who had a body shop and took the truck to them with the other person's insurance estimate. They looked at the vehicle saw $2k of additional work that wasn't in the initial estimate. Dealer handled Farmers Insurance and they paid the final bill and the truck looks and drives like new. I don't know if it is on the Car Fax, and don't care.

After reading this comment it occurred to me, will there be anything different in these scenarios with the $7500 fed tax credit being erased? It’s gonna be harder to get a fair price replacement after sept 30th, no?

If a vehicle is repaired, factory warranty remains in place. Ford cannot refuse to honor it.
