Front turn signal overpowered by driving lights at night

Communication is the key. Make your intentions clear to other drivers, and the traffic flows easier and potential for accidents go down.

I do blink into roundabouts if I am going left. So drivers on the opposite side have a chance to decide if they "will make it" before I arrive. I then don't have to slow down so much.

If nobody is around I don't blink at all.

This guy inadvertently made the headlight dim on turn in his gas F150.

Upon more testing the Modified As-built Day Time Running Lights. Both amber & low beam head lamps configuration, I discovered when turning on the left turn signal the left side low beam will turn off, then turn back on once the turn signal cancels. Same holds true when making a right turn, right headlamp turns off till turn signal is canceled. Also turning on the emergency flashers will turn off both low beams. Once flashers are turned off the low beams come back on. I found by editing BCM 726-38-02 DRL_WithTurn_cfg (DRLWTC) to xxx0 xxxx xx-- that corrected the problem of relative low beam headlamp turning off when turn signal came on.

He said the low beam actually turned off, not dimmed. I'm not sure why anyone would want that. You're just asking for a cop to pull you over for a burned out headlight if you're sitting at a red light at night with your turn signal on.

I've seen a number of recent-model vehicles (not just EVs) that turn off other front lights on the side of vehicle on which the flasher is blinking during turns.

At night? Usually it's just the DRL's that turn off while flashing. Its a federal mandate that the DRL turns off when the turn signal and DRL are close to each other (or the same as in the Lightning).

Keep in mind that some idiots never turn on their headlights and all you see is their DRL's even at night.

I fooled around in Forscan this evening. The settings for my headlights does nothing, except turning off my tail lights.

And the settings for the tail lights doesn’t do anything either.

I can’t dim the middle bulb, as described in the Forscan thread. I can’t get the rear taillight to blink when turning.

It seems the eu-conversion reach the deeper than I thought.

Keep in mind that some idiots never turn on their headlights and all you see is their DRL's even at night.

And the worst part is that the rest of the vehicle is completely dark. See it ALL THE TIME.

I certainly hope not - that would be hideously distracting. Personally I find having the DRLs turn off for turn signals annoying. Just one of the reasons I have the DLRs completely disabled on my Lightning. If it was my choice the whole concept of DRLs would be eliminated from all cars. They are worse than not having them at all - the largest reason being all the idiots that drive at night with nothing but DRLs and the entire rest of the car blacked out. Can't drive more than a few miles without seeing one or more cars that way...

You are not seeing DRLs at night. There is a special segment of the population that seems to think parking lights are for dusk and they leave them on until it's dark. Think of it as a signal to you to keep a wide berth.

Incorrect. With parking lights, the rest of the clearance / tail light would be on. With the lights turned off, ONLY the DRLs are on and the rest of the car is blacked out. Can't drive 5 miles at night without seeing a car blacked out with the DRLs on. Driver sees the light from the DRLs and the dash is lit up - must have the headlights on...

In Europe (Norway at least) DRLs included tail lights, until EVs showed up and some bean counter did some math.

50 million cars times 5 watt pr bulb, times two lights pr car, times x hours a day. They saved the planet on removing tail lights from DRL.

Having the ability to have Automatic headlights and using that capability are two different things. Many people (including me most of the time) do not use the auto headlights on my Lightning or on my wife's Corolla. In fact I used FORscan to change the headlight setting so that at startup the headlights default to whatever setting they had been in at shutoff rather than always coming up in Auto. Two reasons for that. The primary reason is that I back into my driveway and just happens that my headlights point right at my neighbors bedroom windows. I left for work at about 0530 and I really don't want to have my headlights illuminate my neighbors bedroom at 0530 even for a second before I could turn off the lights. So as I swing around to line up to back in, I dim the lights to parking, and then turn them off after parking. That way at startup, the lights are off. I turn on the parking lights, and after straightening out on the street, I turn on the headlights. The other part is that I want the lights on when I want them on, not when some light sensor wants them on. For example if it's raining, I want the lights on, but auto generally does not turn them on (that is also required here in California).

At least once I found myself being the idiot using DRL's only. It was on another car that had Auto, but I just had dealer service where they decided to put the switch on Off. .

Remember in the old days when DRLs first showed up in the US, it just was the low beam headlights. After a few years the manufacturers started adding separate lights for the DRLs.
