I’m contemplating getting an extended warranty, doing a little shopping, and looking for input from others…
Have a 2024, under a year old, well within factory warranty.
Question: what’s the upside to buying an extended warranty when I have over 2 years of factory warranty left versus buying right at the end of factory warranty period?
If I run the numbers on a 2022 with 35k miles (nearing end of factory Warranty) through both granger and flood, the cost comes back the SAME as my 2024 with 13k miles.
I know one argument that can be made are costs increase over time so paying today will be less than in 2 years but my counter arguments, or at least what I’m trying to rationalize is, as I didn’t financing this into my overall loan I have to pay it all upfront, I could mitigate the price increase risk by tossing the lump sum I’d pay today into a HYSA to close if not exceed that any difference in cost today versus cost in two years. In addition to the financial aspect, given they don’t seem to penalize for buying early vs late in the factory warranty, wouldn’t waiting to buy also reduce the risk of money lost if I purchased today but sold/totaled the truck in the 2 years that overlaps with the factory warranty?
Opinions or real world similar decisions made anyone willing to share?
