@mochaev : Waiting for Ford or triple-A can sometimes be several hours from what I hear.

A roadside charging service could be useful for newbies who miscalculates or get stuck in an unexpected situation if it was faster than Ford or AAA - that is your competition so you need something to differentiate your service from those big companies.

Another thought is you should target areas without a lot of public charger where the risk of running low on energy may be higher - however areas like that may have fewer EV owners as well. Maybe an area where there a lot of EV drivers and not enough public chargers.

You could probably park one of your charging trucks nearby and get some business form folks who don't want to wait in line at a busy station, eh?

Generally, as you probably gathered from the previous responses above, we experienced EV drivers are fairly good at planning their charging for long trips and everyday driving, and know their range and battery capacity, so we have overcome any range anxiety they ever had.

Before the Lightning, I drove a 2012 Nissan Leaf with a range of about 100 miles on a 24kWh battery. I'll admit to some range anxiety at first before I got used to ignoring the guess-o-meter and learned what the Leaf was capable of. There were not a lot of public charging stations back then to rely on.

For 5 years / 60,000 miles, Ford Roadside Assistance will come and transport you to the nearest charger, for free.
If you had a choice from Ford Roadside Assistance, would you prefer a tow or a charge?

Depends on how long the charge would take. Unless it is a 50k charger, probably tow.

Thanks for asking. It now has the privacy policy linked at the bottom.

Thanks, I'll withhold responding to the survey. Without a clear legal entity, or jurisdiction indicated, this is a little too weak for me. It will make it hard to understand how enforcement of data sharing is done.

I would always choose a tow.

Assuming the time for the recovery vehicle to the dead vehicle is the same for a tow or charge, you’re asking the client and the truck driver to sit on the side of the road while charging. That’s too dangerous. If that’s your model, you better be paying your drivers significant hazard pay, offer much better health insurance than is generally available to the public, and include several $M of free death/disability insurance for their family. In the late 2010s, every day there were 1.55 deaths and more than 40 serious injuries involving disabled vehicles and motorists who exited their vehicle to help someone in a disabled vehicle.

I would never call a gig worker to do this kind of job. No way, no how. They’re not paid enough to take on that kind of risk.

Of course the tow vehicle must seat the number of folks possibly in the truck plus the driver ....
Agreed.

That’s one of the many reasons I just don’t run out of electricity.

The name I gave to my F150 Lighting Lariat.
Is your profile pic from the Mister Whippy on Chincoteague Island? I was stationed at Wallops Island and used to go there sometimes. Delicious!

Yes!!! Sadly, I was just passing through from a visit to Assateague Island and can't visit often - it's a hike from Frederick. We do have "Jimmy Cone" but the signage is not as much fun.
