Figured I’d post this article here about ICE F150 gas prices to make ourselves feel good.

Makes me feel like Django, unchained and no longer a slave to big oil for transportation.
(Not to make light of human slavery, a stain on the history of humanity)

People should not buy toys they can't afford to operate, no matter what the cost of fuel.

Let's assume a $1 increase per gallon of gas. Let's assume it lasts for 6 months, and a person drives 15,000 miles a year, and gets 17mpg. 15,000 / 365 / 17 = $2.42 a day, $435 in 6 months. If you buy a $40,000 truck and can't absorb that without a severe impact to your life, you shouldn't be driving a truck.

The problem is that people react emotionally, not logically. Gas prices spike, and they trade their truck for a efficient car (when cars were sold), even though they are now underwater from the truck, and it will take many, many years to breakeven on the reduced fuel cost.

Just remember that calculation ignores the "hidden" or indirect costs economists call externalities, e.g., the harm to human health of air, water and land pollution, global warming, etc., which are way more costly to all of us than the price paid at the pump.

Guess you don't use eggs in cooking meals? Meatloaf, quiche, Jiffy muffins, egg and sausage casserole, French toast and apple casserole, ... All use eggs. We cost went up due to chicken population impacted by disease.

The increase in fuel costs also hits the transportation needed to get them to the store, etc.

I’m looking at $240 to fill up my ethanol free 40 gallon ($6/gal) Sea Swirl. That 305 SB is thirsty .

I'm scared to even think the battery it would take to do our normal offshore trip of about 200 miles. Last trip out we burned 96 gallons for just under 200 miles. E-Free 93 was $3.899/gal then so $375 to fill up. Granted the wind won't calm down so it's been helping my bank account. I need to move to the Florida Keys so I only have a few miles to the gulfstream.

I was just doing some of the math on this while charging my Lightning at negative rates today and comparing to the cost to fill an ICE F-150's tank. So, with the negative rages I was getting today to charge 56% of my battery, my electricity supplier in Chicago would actually be crediting me about $1.20 and charging me about $3.90 in delivery fees and my rooftopsolar was covering about 1/3 of the electricity used for charging, too, so all up, I might have paid about $1.80 for a 56%top up. I know my math is not perfect, but it is close and when estimating the equivalent average range for an ICE F-150, depending on the model, would be a minimum of $37 today in Chicago based on an average of $4.721 per unleaded gallon (max I've seen in my neighborhood per gallon today is $5.39).

Needless to say, I am definitely glad to be driving my Lightning andy Mach-E these days (or always really).

Very similar story for me. Almost nothing to go to work and back for me, and even less for her Tesla. It's hard to beat the deal driving EV and Ozark's Electric Co-op.
We LOVE Ozark's Electric Co-op. Much of their power comes from Hydro, some from solar, and some from the harvested methane from the Tontitown landfill.
Don't know what percent of the total that amounts to though.

Now that brings up an idea for the Ford EV's of the future. Run tubes up to all the seats and harvest methane from the occupants. Eat some refried beans and get another 200 miles!!!! I can think of a few people I know who would be good for 500 miles! Better get Brian and his engineer team on this right now.

I don't think you guys really understand the implications of a marked increase in fuel prices. Do the math using percentages, it's quite an increase. It has nothing to do with living paycheck to paycheck either. It's a known fact that increased fuel prices lead to less recreational traveling. This in turn leads to less tourism dollars spent. As @chl said, less trickle down and more costs for everything. Everyone loses.

I’m not sure if anyone is saying increase prices have no impact, just that people shouldn’t buy a full size truck if they can’t handle some price increases in fuel. If anything, money printing has a bigger impact on the economy than a temporary increase of eggs or gas or diesel. Certainly not everyone buys a new full size truck and does buy a very used car or truck and this will impact them quite a bit if they are already living paycheck to paycheck, and I certainly feel for them (heck, I have plenty of family members in this situation).

Median USA income is 80k or 6667/month.

15,000 / 365 / 17 = $2.42 extra / day. $72 a month. Now do 2 cars and its $144.

Sure that's only 2% of your gross income. But taxes, housing, food, healthcare etc.

What % of that is discretionary income? People feel it. It's why neither party can survive significantly high gas prices.
