So all you did was unlock the truck and the PPOB came ON with the truck OFF?
My 24 has been that way since new. Unlock the truck with the Fob and press the power button next to the outlets in the bed. But you only have a minute to do it.

Another interesting thing with this silent update is the power outlet "cigarette lighter" is now powered with the truck off, but only for 5 min. and will also power on with the remote climate from the app. I have a dometic fridge in the center console. it is powered by the rear power outlet. It would never come on when I remote started the climate but now it does.

Checked this morning and no update…. Checked this afternoon and the new toggle is there!
Thanks Ford! My ‘23 Platinum is happy tonight. Nice unexpected birthday present for me! Overall, this is the best Ford truck I’ve ever owned. Just hit 40,000 mi so I’m mostly on my own for repairs (except HVB) from now on. New tires in place and no problems on the horizon…

Cheers! Go Lightning’s! A phenom that bit the dust before it’s time due to forces beyond its control…. A great venture that was torpedoed…

I appreciate the update but the minimum required power needs to be lowered. I have an awesome cooler and it pulls less than 100w. It’s in use almost every weekend and I turn off the lights and AC for hours at a time. I’d love not to have to do that anymore but this new feature still won’t work for me or a lot of people.
It really seems there is a problem with all these little loads. My main need is running my travel trailer overnight. 100watts? No problem keeping the circuit on for me.

Yes, Canadian; no, it definitely wasn’t on! I was as surprised as you are!
It should not happen that way. Very strange, and yes surprising!

Does the FORD app show that the PPOB 7.2kW bed outlets are on?

I wonder if it was wired wrong?

Does unlocking the door do anything else strange?

For the PPOB to be ON, the contactors that connect the HVB have to be closed to power the inverter(s) and the BECM has to be powered to control things as I recall.

Well, enjoy the convenience! :)

Does re-locking the door turn it back OFF?

Reminds me of the person who had an orgasm every time they sneezed, unusual but enjoyable...and apparently more common than once thought.

Wow...now I'm going to have to try that!

How did you guys stumble on to it, or is it in the manual somewhere?

Very interesting, thanks!

Anybody else on EAP without these Powertrain updates?
Not sure what EAP stands for but I do not have the powertrain update on my 23 lariat. Wondering how to get the powertrain update.

OK I tried it and it WORKED on my 2023 Pro...

This feature is somewhat useful. Some people want to power a cooler/freezer, an intermittent load, which isn't compatible with the timer.

But powering a cooler off the truck is not an energy efficient solution: the truck uses about 400W. Powering a 40W cooler with 25% duty cycle would use 10W avg for the cooler, but it draws 410W out of the High Voltage Battery: this is 2% efficient.

@Ford Motor Company -
Here's an ideal for a real camping mode in a future Ford. Integrate 400W of conformable solar in the roof to continuously charge the 12V (48V?) battery while the sun shines (eliminate the sunroof). Upgrade the low voltage battery capacity. Put a 12V outlet in the bed. Keep 12V ON when truck OFF. Now, folks can keep their cooler running efficiently all-day while the sun shines. Add a low-voltage - High voltage converter to kick in occasionally trickle charge the HVB with the excess solar running the low voltage from ~95% to ~65%. At night, the logic reverses and the 400V to 12V converter maintains the 12V and your cooler/freeze continue receiving power all night.

Bonus points if you add a DC port for customers to add more solar. I currently have 880W of solar on my truck constantly charging a 3.6 kWh supplementary battery in the bed. I'll soon upgrade to 1320W after I add a slide-out. It would be great not to have to carry 3.6 kWh of extra batteries when I'm already lugging around 146 kWh under the truck. I could use that battery weight savings for another 880W of slide-out solar panels totaling 2.2 kW solar and recharging 250 mi/week in the summer - anywhere!

Your equation is not entirely accurate. Yes, the truck reportedly draws 400 watts when ON, but NOT when PPOB on with the truck off. The inverter is still not overly efficient at low loads (no inverter is), but a lot of the truck ON loads are not there with only PPOB on.

Yes trickle charge/maintain the 12v battery should be done for 12v battery longevity.
But the truck DC-DC converter also 'wastes' energy with inefficiency losses, probably more that a plug-in external maintainer like the NOCO Genius does.

My Nissan Leaf came with a little solar panel on the back of the roof to trickle charge the 12v battery.

For real efficiency the Aptera is the way - 4.6kWh per day - not in production for sale yet, but getting close:

You can do this now! I'm collecting 7.8 kWh/day in the summer today. While driving or parked. No significant impact on highway efficiency. 70% more energy captured than the Aptera. But, we're 25% as efficient as that Aptera in moving the vehicle forward.
