Slate has said they would be net profitable from year one and to be operationally profitable would need a run rate of 80k a year which for perspective would be greater than the number for 2 door trucks currently being sold today combined. That’s the challenge for them to over come. The question is, are those market forces saying nobody wants 2 door vehicles or is it more of a build it and they will come chicken and the egg solution

The question for Ford and Slate for that matter is how much unit volume is it going to take to keep it in production and not get slammed with a 10 billion $ corporate right down. If the Lightning is any indication the number has 6 figures per year for Ford. Hopefully Slate can at least survive with half the volume. Add dealing with the upcoming "market adjustment" pricing and Fords previous "packaging" of options I wouldn't count on getting a 30K$ Ford any time soon.
I'm sure Ford will make 5 oraybe even 6 in the base model configuration.

Aero I think is the priority for this one. It’s definitely about the right tool for the job as always.

So Ford is positioning this as a family around town go to HD and get a potted plant and haul a couple of bikes to a state park vehicle. What would be your minimum EPA combined range for that criteria? 280 EPA, 250 real world, 200 highway@70 mph? What do you think will be the MSRP for that configuration?

Since I already have a Lightning I’ll be most curious what the next vehicle is that’s built on this Universal EV platform. If they make a Rav 4 type thing on it with a rear hatch that could be interesting as a second vehicle.

This is what my wife and I would be most interested in for her. She had an edge for 13 years and has a Model Y now. Our lease is up next July but neither this nor the SUV version certainly will be ready in time.

Yeah I have zero interest in this
Scary enough owning their Lightning. Pretty sure I’ll be eating a bigger loss on the Lightning than anything I’ve owned (in 47 yrs of owning vehicles). Too bad it’s the best vehicle I’ve owned. Until it isn’t. Just waiting.

Personally, I think this style of reveal/advertising is totally ineffective. Amateurish at best.

If you don't have anything to show, keep it to yourself.

If the Fathom was a girl trying to get my attention back in then day, I'd move on and avoid the mental instability.

This teaser won't stop anyone from buying what they want at the moment.... and those Chinese trucks with nice styling and long ranges are looking better every day.

You should have kept the battery version of the Lightning as an option on the F150 and produced the EREV for the toy hauler. Bring back the F150 BEV with better batteries and you'll have a hit again. The F150 is your best selling truck for a reason.

Make that cork-popping sound and get your head out of your rear-end. Your future depends on it.

EPA isnt done with mixed use cycles not at 70mph so really hard to say what that range will be. I know they have been targeting 300 miles but that may not be for the Standard range battery version which is what this first announcement was about at the $28,350 MSRP (keep in mind with destination your just under $30k) battery size has also not been announced only speculated at 50kwh - 60kwh. Very hard to see getting More than 225 highway at that size of a pack realistically.

I think they have targeted the 28/29 refresh of the F series for a possible EREV and I’m sure what they learn from this platform will help with that.

I’ll let others chime in on the markets choices haha

Not surprised at the I am out comments :)

I do like to follow this vehicle for a glipse into the future of Ford EV architecture and tech.

Article detailing the 48 volt replacing the traditional 12 volt systems on this vehicle, very interesting to me:

https://www.msn.com/en-us/autos/new...g-with-48-volt-zonal-architecture/ar-AA29lv9L
I saw this article too. Does this mean there will not be a secondary low voltage battery at all? I couldn’t tell from that article.

That's my point. A vehicle that is going to meet the range spec I referenced, range spec which will be demanded for there use case is going to be closer to 45K than 30K.
