Most Ford F-150 Lightning Customers Came From Retail In 2025

The Ford F-150 Lightning debuted to much fanfare for the 2022 model year, which was to be expected for the first all-electric version of America's favorite pickup. It launched in both a fleet-focused Pro trim, as well as more luxurious, feature-laden, retail-oriented models, eyeing what was seen as a sure-fire burgeoning market at that time. However, EV adoption has slowed considerably, leading to the discontinuation of the all-electric Ford F-150 Lightning pickup, which will soon be replaced by an extended range electric vehicle (EREV) variant.
Looking back at The Blue Oval's Q4 and 2025 year-end sales report, we're getting a closer look at what sort of customers purchased Ford F-150 Lightning pickups last year, and it's a pretty interesting mix. That data shows that over 80 percent of those buyers came from the retail world, with commercial fleets making up fewer than 20 percent of that overall mix. That might seem a bit surprising, but it's pretty close to the even 80/20 split experienced by the ICE-powered F-150, at least.
On top of that, the Ford F-150 Lightning ranked somewhat in the middle of the pack when it comes to non-Pro models and commercial sales mix. The Ford Escape led the way there with a 35 percent commercial mix, followed by the Expedition and Explorer at under 30 percent, and it essentially tied the Mustang and Maverick, along with the gas F-150.
While it may not have achieved quite the commercial success some had hoped, the Ford F-150 Lightning was successful in bringing non-truck and non-EV customers to The Blue Oval. As Ford Authority previously reported, nearly 63 percent of all Ford F-150 Lightning buyers thus far have come from non-truck vehicles, in fact. Additionally, 74 percent of those same buyers came to Ford from another brand, making it quite the conquest champion, while 15 percent left their gas-powered F-150 for the all-electric version.
