Neighbors son backed into truck and is there anything i should look out for when trying to open frunk? I am planning on manually releasing to open. Also what as the insurance process goes along should I look out for? Its getting towed to a Travelers authorized collision center for first estimate but then I am having it towed to a Ford FCCN dealer for the repair work.

Why on earth would you try and open it? Leave it be.

You should contact your insurance company, and let them deal with your neighbor's insurance company. That's going to be pricey.

Thank you that thread it is very helpful and also disheartening for what I assume the next couple of months are going to be.

Was going to try and get some work equipment out of the frunk since i figure the trucks going away for a while but guess once it gets to ford ill just ask to go get the items.

The driver was 15, no license and not on the parent’s insurance so yeah. I was out of town on business and got the call from my wife at 3am saying the neighbor backed into your truck. Thinking oh ok, going to be a headache but not that bad probably. Then I saw the pictures. The parents did call the cops and have a police report for what ever thats going to be worth in this process.

Sounds like it’s going to go through the Uninsured Motorists clause on your policy. I don’t know if it could be put on the parents policy since it was their vehicle and their son, but I’ld sure check on that.

Sorry for your trouble.

And what the hell was a 15 yr old doing out at 3:00am?

That is mostly your insurance providers problem to deal with. Yes, your insurance will likely go after the parents - either personally or their insurance. You will likely be on the hook for your deductible which you should get back if your insurance company is able to collect.

Just looks like mostly expensive body damage and probably some sensors from the pics.

There is a lot of stuff on the fronts of our mobile computers. Look at an exploded view of the front of the Lightning and you'll see what I mean.

Possible troubles: delays getting any replacement parts needed.

The parent(s) of the minor are responsible for the damage (may depend on your state laws).

I assume they have insurance on the car he was using? Then their insurance should cover it under the "family car" doctrine.

If they don't have insurance...

Many auto polices will cover "uninsured motorists" 100% - my Virginia GEICO policy did when a hit and run guy hit my driver's side mirror, skipped town and then GEICO found out he was uninsured. I had his info because he was a sub-contractor for a renovation going on next door and I caught the accident on my security cams.

My son (RIP) and his friend did something similar when they were 15, didn't hit another car or cause bodily injury but they did damage to the friend's parents car when they took a curve too fast and went off the road sideways.

One of my daughters when she was a teen, let her boyfriend drive our car when we were visiting her older sister at college. No damage or tickets, but we had to cut our visit short and have a "talk."

After those incidents we got a lock box for our spare keys and used it all the time.

I also gave my kids one as a gift when they had children, lol.

Figured Id give an update on this. Finally got it to a ford ccn repair facility and repairs have come back at $15,210. They also informed me today that no new replacement hoods are available and there is also no eta when they will be available. I did reach out to Brian to see if he could confirm but figure with them canceling the truck I'm suck with used like new condition for the hood. Luckily nothing else is back ordered.

typically, in most states, a 15 year old is under a temporary Learner's permit, which also comes with the caveat that a Parent licensed driver, or a licensed driver over 21, be present if the young driver is behind the wheel.
Now, as for insurance, it is a little more complicated since the requirements of most any policy from any insurer is going to be: you are required to add the young driver to your policy at the first instance they receive a temporary license, as a 'learning' driver on your policy. Insurance companies contemplate that most of the time a PARENT is in the passenger seat, but, as you can imagine, that's not always the case - sometimes an older sibling can be allowed, or a licensed Uncle, Aunt, or friend of 21 years or older.

Regardless, the vehicle's owner, and their insurance policy, will likely be the responsible party for repairs, regardless of who was driving, or whether the parents/owner 'let' them drive, if they even knew about it. Keys hang near the door, or are found in a kitchen drawer, or are not hidden well enough. Teens are smarter than the rest of us, and especially their parents - ask Judge Judy.

but, regardless, most of the time the owner of a damaged vehicle will contact his OWN insurance company and start a claim, letting the insurer force the issue with the other driver's own insurer... which provides for a slightly less awkward conversation with your neighbor.

the same thing happened to my 1990 Ford Ranger back in 1992 - the neighbors grandson, from across the street, backed out of their driveway, into the street, and into the side of my truck, parked on the opposite side.
