4K tow capacity would be plenty for that little pickup, in my opinion. Great for the occasional Uhaul cargo trailer, etc.

Seems the estimates are based on what the Maverick with the tow package can tow...could be more or less.

The F-150 ICE can have a higher tow capacity than the Lightning depending on the engine in the ICE version.

Watched a vid.today TFL Trucks. They did some visual analysis from spy shots, and they estimate that this new "truck" may be as much as 18" shorter than the Maverick, and perhaps only 62" wide. Also apparently even Ford is now calling is small in theirost recent references (read this on Electrek).

I will give it a fair chance (I even bought a MacBook recently, after using only Windows or later Android since the early 90s), but it's not looking good to me.

Side note I don't see what's so great about Apples software. Mostly, just different, but hate that they try to wall you in. I'm mean they demand you log into Apple to install a complete file manager that should have been included.

The shrinking bed size of pickup trucks has been going on for years giving way to the expanded cab having full sized rear seats.

I was happier with a 6ft bed.
Even my 1974 Mazda rotary engine PU had one.
No back seat of course.
Only cost about $3500 too, ha!

But one can drive around with the tailgate down and stuff hanging out the back, or with the gate closed sticking out and up at an angle, or use a small utility trailer.

Clearly more of an around town/suburban PU than a rugged back road heavy duty PU.

Pro's and con's for sure.

I hauled more stuff in my '68 C10 with the 8' bed than I ever have in my '05 Silverado with its 6.5' bed, and I owned them at the same time! People thought I was crazy for going to pick up lumber in the C10, but a pickup is a pickup.

I hope this little truck does have a midgate. That would be very useful

The Maverick’s conquest sales from Civic scale vehicles sent Ford the obvious signal that utility comes in all truck sizes. The rural farmers/fisherman I grew up around really liked the 70’s-80’s small pickups for their utility & stingy gas consumption. And they were rugged & dependable.

The urban vehicle market demands inexpensive vehicles that can squeeze into small spaces. I put 160K miles on a Sport Trac Adrenalin and the S.O. loved it ‘cause easy to enter-exit & park in a modern parking lot. Then again, every ‘bro wants a 3” lift & 35s. Go ahead, 13-15 mpg If your lucky.

Exactly the F150 Diesel that my SIL drove.. a lot. but He also admired our Lightning & eventually got tired of $6-$7 diesel, buys a Platinum Lightning sends me a note” 3” lift & 35s?”. I say… “uhh.. not really happening unless $$$$“.

Image trucks/bro-dozers aren’t going away. Ford knows that… Go to a Ford showroom & dealer lot. Big trucks everywhere. But conquest sales is where a future market is… and once a pickup owner.. probably going to stay there no matter what the size. We came oh so close to buying a 2WD Maverick hybrid 4 years ago… probably $23K tax included. Still kick myself….

I do miss my high-school fire engine red ‘56 F100. A midsize pickup nowadays! 223 I-6 and 4 speed. 23-24 mpg on the highway. 4:11 rear end too! Crying out for that 390….

75-80 MPGE!!!

There is a reason the F150 has been the best selling truck for decades. Not the smaller Ranger types. Guys prefer the larger truck.

It doesn't take a genius to realize the best selling electric truck will be a full size truck with 500 miles of range, with a battery that won't explode. Also, it needs to charge 90% in 10 minutes, and be reasonable priced.

Basically, Ford needs to make a contract with CATL and BYD to brîng this battery technology to their F150's. The tech currently exists. The tech is getting better each day. It's hard to make a contract on technology that gets outdated and better each year.

The EREV will serve it's purpose to introduce guys to the electric platform. There is no doubt guys will fall in love with the electric platform. Then, they will dream about how great it would be to have an all electric with the same capabilities and without the maintenance headaches of ICE.

It's interesting to watch the progress and transformation into the all EV transportation infrastructure.

China is currently kicking our butts. But, we are getting there slowly, too slowly.

My 2000 Ranger 4wd had a 3L V6 and was good for most of what I needed but to climb a bit of a hill with a load in tow, I had to get a dangerous head start or go 4wd low (on pavement) and creep up. It was also a bit long in the tooth, 200k mi. As seldome as I tow, that little truck would likely be enough if it tows 7500#.

But! The thing that is a game changer to me is the frunk. Does it have one? The frunk is the thing that allows it to serve as an SUV or even a sedan as well as a truck.

Dear @Ford Motor Company,

Things are usually WAY more simple than corporate people make them appear. I am a Licensed Professional Engineer with an MBA, and I worked for 30+ years in global Research, Design & Engineering and Major Project Construction for a Fortune 100 consumer products company. Thus, I believe I can speak with some modicum of authority.

If I were running @Ford Motor Company, the following items would drive my decision-making:

1. The Ford F-150 is the undisputed best selling pickup in America for 49 years, and the best selling vehicle for 44 years!
2. Go back and reread item #1.
3. Give people what they want! (Let's add "dammit" for emphasis.)
4. Fire the 90% of incompetent design and marketing teams for not adhering to #3, and thinking they know more about the customers than the customers do.
5. Leveraging item #1, I would manufacture and sell F-150's like people want them ... ICE F-150's, Hybrid F-150's, EV F-150's, EREV F-150's, Diesel F-150's, etc.

Try it, and reimburse me at 0.1% of the profit gains which result.

I will wager whatever you like that tow cap will be closer to half of 7500 than it will to 7500...
That would make it much more viable for more folks, it's just not feasible with a platform this small.
