2025 F150 Lightning Flash 131kWh
The taillight of my 2025 Flash began showing signs of moisture intrusion months ago. I know a little haze can be normal so I ignored it. Over the last month or so, that haze developed into significant water drops. Then over the last two days I started getting Blind Spot Detection errors, I’m assuming due to the buildup of moisture.

So I schedule an appointment with the dealer who’s picking up today. When looking at the taillight I noticed a thin crack in the area that would face the light bar if equipped. I’m really hoping this does not cause any issues with warranty as I have not hit the taillight in any way shape or form.

Any advice on what to do regarding the crack when the dealer gets the vehicle?

Update:

My dealer replaced the taillight and sensor no questions asked.

Here is a picture of my 2025 Flash in the same spot.

I haven't noticed any moisture in mine.

Does your tailgate rub on that spot when lowering it?

not sure if you can make it out but I had a crack about identical in that also went down into the black area. I noticed after I had my spray in bed liner done so just figured it was carelessness with the application hose. I was able to fix it with a little bit of clear epoxy and so far has been holding up. I did make sure the housing was dried out before applying the epoxy luckily it was over the winter and dry with after a couple days in the sun and driving the moisture seemed to evaporate out the crack. Maybe its a defect though as mine is a 2025 flash and my vin ends in 10533 maybe a bad batch of taillights

Good question. For sure there is no physical contact between the tailgate and the taillight.

I had a carbon copy of your situation, no impact marks, just an unexplained crack that I know for a fact I did not put there. It is possible these are happening at the factory during build, it's very easy to miss until you start seeing water and peeking around. Or just terrible build quality. Ford denied my warranty claim to my dealer despite my dealer lobbying that there don't appear to be impact marks.

See this thread and my response as to what I had to do. Ford failed miserably in the ability to come through for me but the OP there ended up getting theirs replaced under warranty. Luck of the person looking at the photos I guess... https://www.f150lightningforum.com/...e-rear-tail-light-2025-lightning-flash.34129/

I've seen some people recommend filing a NHTSA complaint (brake lights and blind spot system are obviously big safety issues). No idea if it'll help in the short term but if there are enough complaints it might result in a recall to have it fixed. Hopefully Ford steps up and does the right thing.

I too am having the same issue in the same spot. Ford also denied my claim quoting “possible impact” and another dealer quoting a GSB “26-7012”. Went all the way through a BBB claim which was denied because of the GSB. Definitely a safety issue and will look into filing a NHTSA as well.

That’s crazy. I wonder if class action is a possibility……

I haven't taken my tail lights out but I am considering it and looking for a way to get some desiccant inside to prevent damage to blind spot and electrical components...

Same here, same crack, same spot, same driver side only. Glad I saw this, I'm not waiting for water to get in, I'm going to brush on some 3d printing resin I have to seal it before it spreads.

Gotta be a defect from the factory. Only have 2700 miles on the odo.

And just like new again. Better than new because this thing had to have come like that.

The resin seeped into the crack and the sun is curing it right now. If resin thicker than water can seep in, you know water is going to.

I think this needs to be documented as a potential safety issue, not just a warranty dispute. My concern is that once the rear lamp housing is cracked and moisture gets inside, it can affect rear lighting visibility, lamp integrity, and overall safe operation.

If you file one, keep it simple and factual:
  • year/trim
  • which side
  • where the crack is
  • whether there was any known impact
  • moisture/condensation inside the lamp
  • what the dealer said
  • whether Ford covered it or denied it
Even if nothing fully failed yet, it is still worth reporting. If more owners document the same pattern, at least there is a record for NHTSA to review.

Well Crud. Guess I'll have to keep an eye on mine. I assume a hair dryer would dry it out if it does get moisture in there. If I do get a crack, I'll post here. Does super glue work on this plastic? Not sure where you get 3d printing resin if needed.

Super glue might work.
