My 23 Pro has been in the shop for 12 days now after a second tow when the 12v died and truck gave me the stop now warning. The tech knows there is a 12v drain and high voltage failure, and has been trying to replicate the failure but can't yet trace where the fault originates so he's contacted the Ford technical escalation team. Meanwhile the truck is getting a daily workout, accruing a lot of miles and charging to 100%. As I said in a recent post, and while I'm not a software or hardware engineer, this could well be a software problem. Anyone remember scratching their head over an old Fortran If Then Else End error? 🤔

This is painful to read, and I can only imagine how frustrating it was to watch your Flash get winched onto a flatbed. That is absolutely not the experience you signed up for, especially after getting another Lightning.

The "orange ring" combined with a total 12V failure is something we need to look at closely.

I want to get this in front of our team to investigate and ensure the dealer has the technical support they need to diagnose why that module failed.

Please send me a DM with your VIN and the name of the dealer you are working with. I'll escalate this on my end and keep an eye on the case.

Well, I don't drive my Lightning a lot, (occasionally, once a month I do a 45mi round trip). I charge to 90%, and let it get to 60 - 70% before charging on a level 2 Ford Stock Charger. I have notice after a while of charge cycles, the GOM slowly drops a mile or two at a charge. Once every couple of months I charge to 100% and it raises the GOM ceiling, then after doing 90%ers, it starts to drop again. I think this is SOP

Curious, what is the consensus on how often you should charge to 100%? I think I've only done this twice thus far.
If you have an OBD reader, just keep an eye on the voltage variation metrics. If you see variation start to creep up then it's time to top balance (charge to 100% overnight). That's how I'm treating mine anyways. I charge to 100% about once a quarter for road trips and that seems to be enough for my battery to stay balanced.

Get yourself a cheap 12-volt monitor that you plug into your cigarette lighter. It's around 10 bucks and that way you can see if your battery is starting to get weak, so you can throw it on a charger before you have these problems. And when I mean charger, I don't mean the high voltage charger cuz you got to be driving for that to work. If you're only driving short periods, you're probably going to need to invest in a small trickle charger or a 12-volt charger.

Sorry to hear your Pro has been stuck in the shop for nearly two weeks.

Your dealer is taking the right steps by escalating to our technical team, I double-checked from my side to ensure that the team has been in contact with them and I can confirm that they have been working to assist your dealer with the diagnosis and repair of your Lightning.

Don't have to be driving, just turned on sitting in your driveway will charge the lvb.

I already have it on my calendar to disconnect the 12v battery every quarter, so I'll do this as well. Thank you

Man you guys are real nice to your trucks. I don't think I've charged to 100% in over a year (level 1 EVSE; work from home most days).

Good Grief.... All this special do this and do that and don't do this very often and use a different charger and use a 12v battery maintainer...

I've had my bolt since new 2017... never did all this krazy stuff... I charge it when I want... as much as I want using whatever charger I want.... 130k miles with no significant changes to the HVB. Most reliable car I've ever owned (short down time when chevy replaced everybodys HVB for fire issues-mine never had an issue). The only downside was the value tanked when the batteries were recalled but I kept mine so not affected by resale/trade loss in value.

Its like Ford rushed these things to the market in my opinion. The software is hideous. The modules are filled with gremlins. The HVB's are finicky. The 12V system blows.

I still love the handling and power. Ford got that right.

Some of us enjoy the idea that we are maximizing battery life. We know from our local battery expert what degrades it the most. We know that the BMS works to balance cells only at the top 99-100% SOC. So yeah, drive and charge it how you want, it's your truck. But IF you want to eek out an extra bit of life, the *tips* help. They don't even cost anything. Charge frequently, top balance once in a while, try not to go below 20% when possible. I would add avoid extreme heat but that's a lot harder to manage, especially for those of us in hot climates.

Personally, I'm not sacrificing anything by doing this and who knows...I might get an extra 10 battery cycles of life from it. No, I'll never know for sure but it's fun to think about it.

I am one of those guys who does short infrequent drives. At almost 23k miles the only issue I've had was several " Battery Saver Mode" messages around 20k miles. Dealer replaced the 12v battery in December and and haven't had any issues since then . (knock on wood, cross my fingers!)

Update. Dealer waiting on more parts. Service person does not know much about EV stuff. Looks like whole system has to be reprogrammed and some fuse controller thing needs replacement which involves dropping the HVB.
Going into week 3.
