Are there 3 batteries in the Lightning?

Just got off the phone with the Ford team regarding my OTA updates. The guy on the phone said he saw a low voltage error on the 3rd battery in my Lightning... Since I had no clue what he was referring to, I asked him to give me some more info. He said all Ford EVs have 3 batteries: The HV, the 12v under the hood, and another 12v either under the car or under the driver's seat. The lightning isn't my first EV, much less my first Ford EV. I came from a Mach-E. He said this battery is specifically there to assist with OTA updates. Is this true, or is he misinformed? I have NEVER heard this before, nor can I find any evidence to support this.

Haven’t seen anything of a 2nd 12v battery. Maybe he meant the third module in the HV pack?

I'm still new to the truck but the owners manual references 12v battery and not batteries so I assume there's only one. I'm with @biers in thinking that they were likely referring to the 3rd module of HVB pack.

Think he probably started 5 o'clock a bit early. Bad 12v can cause issues getting updates so that would be my guess.

They’re probably coming from the Powerboost team; the Powerboost has two 12V batteries.

Primary Battery (2023-2024): BAGM-94RH7-800
AUX Battery: BHAGM-AUX1-B

The AUX battery is not in the Lightning. And the only 12V battery in the Lightning is quite a bit smaller than the primary battery in the other F-150s. The Lightning has no need for the high amperage output the F-150 ICEs require to turn the engine over.

You may want to ask him to do an oil change while he is replacing the third battery.

For some reason this reminds me of Total Recall.

You may want to ask him to do an oil change while he is replacing the third battery.

For some reason this reminds me of Total Recall.
After they change the oil make sure they check the blinker fluid. 🤣

Crazy!

Only one 12v - if it is a problem with OTAs then that is due to the ONE 12v battery being below 85% charge. Put the truck on a L2 EVSE - the thing that causes the High Voltage battery to charge through the CCS1 port - overnight which will generally also cause the 12v battery to charge up to where it needs to be.

Then first thing in the AM, install the update through your truck menu screen.

Search for the many threads about that here on the forum.

There are 3 battery modules, so in a sense, 3 high voltage (HV) batteries integrated into one system, but the are definitely NOT 12v, lol!

The Ford team is really going downhill if they think there are three 12v batteries in the Lightning!

PS: when I had that issue they told me to drive around for a couple hours - did not work.

The additional clue that he was thinking Powerboost is he mentions under the seat. It is indeed under the back seat.

So my question is what exactly did he "see" when he said there was a low voltage problem with the 3rd battery? And what about the 2nd battery? Both of them should be zero volts since neither are in the Lightning....OMG, how sad.

It reminds me of the time I bought a new HP high-end PC but it kept freezing up, so I called the HP customer service line, and when I told them the computer was freezing the guy on the phone told me to try putting a blanket on it! Yea, right.

Turned out it was a bad update to an anti-virus program that WIn XP did not like.

You just can't get good help these days, as the saying goes - except on the F-150LightningForum (usually).
