ok, will do. Thanks for the advice. I know "crunchy" feeling brake action from old(er) motorcycles in need of brake fluid/cleanout, but here I'm talking 10+ year old bikes. The sensation is actually very comparable. However, the braking on the Lightning feels rock solid after "breaking the ice". Color of brake fluid looks normal too. I'll play around with it a bit... It is definitely not "normal". Thanks.

I have both a 2017 F150 and the 2023 Lightning. I actually feel that initial first movement of "breaking ice" on the 2017 but not at all on the 2023. If my memory is correct both use an electric brake booster not the old vacuum style. tolerances and performance variables in the electrical sensors might be causing this feeling.

IIRC, we have a service interval for flushing the hydraulics, time & mile considerations, regardless of 1PD or 2PD usage.

I haven’t looked at the Lightning, but the Mach-E calls for changing the brake fluid every 3 years regardless of miles. I’d think our trucks would be the same.

The reason is that the fluid is hygroscopic and tends to absorb moisture. An alternative to blindly changing it is to measure the moisture content if you have access to the measuring equipment.

so I drag brakes using both pedals occasionally ..
? I doubt that does anything, I would just put it in neutral and use the brake if you're really concerned about it.

The brakes still get used in 1pd.

My truck was build in October of 23 and is still under warranty. I would have hoped Ford would offer to fix the braking system after drawing in moisture... I will have to find a more competent dealer and report back. Thanks again!!

Moisture absorption in the fluid causes loss of braking under hard braking conditions due to the vaporization of the water. It will not cause your symptoms. Sorry your thread got somewhat derailed.

update: I asked a mechanic friend to take a look at it. He checked the mechanical side (pedal/cylinder). Resistance was felt even after unbolting the pedal assembly. He then unplugged the battery and the resistance was gone completely. Once the power was back, it had the resistance again.
He said that the electric motor needs to be "reset", it must have lost its position. I wonder if there is a procedure to reset this motor? What would you guys recommend I should do? Do I need to go back to my service center (or a different one)? Thanks!

I have no idea ... I have gained confidence in my dealer and I think I would tell him that I disconnected the battery and the resistance was gone ect.... That you think it is either the motor or sensor within the brake system...??

I hope you are still in the 3 yr 30k window?

It seems lately that it is how you frame the problem to the Service Manager is important especially regarding warrantee.
