My cottage is off grid and I want to take the DC voltage from the Charge Station Pro to an invertor.
I see in the schematics that I need a "dark battery", but what does the capacity of it need to be?
I see a CAT serial cable. Is that serial interface necessary? If so, how do I fake it?

The "Dark Start" battery is nothing more than a simple 12v battery. Any 12 battery will do. The typical alarm system lead acid battery will do. This is used to power up all the electronics in the FCSP and other home integration system components. The comms between the FCSP and HIS inverter system is RS485 through those communication terminals on the FCSP. The communication between the FCSP and the truck is over Bluetooth.

You want the same thing I want. To use the 400vdc on a traditional DIY inverter (EG4 etc). Unfortunately I don't think the truck is going to close in those contacts without some coordinated communication between the HIS and FCSP.

You've got your work cut out for you trying to fabricate a facsimile of the HIS system, though you may have better success getting it to work reliably than the original system which has a poor track record, at least from what we've read from members who invested in the off the shelf system.

Good luck cracking the codes and controls with third party or home built substitutes.

Phil from the youtube channel State of charge has it installed and it works perfectly. Probably because he had it all installed and cost him a fortune.

Wiring diagram shows connection to a Delta BDI inverter. Quick Google search shows that to be a 485 Modbus protocol.
Diagram wiring looks like the inverter is the master. I haven’t gone into the protocol further, but it is likely this is a standard inverter protocol - if there is one. I would start by contacting Delta and ask for their modbus protocol standard.

You can also Google search for inverter modbus protocol to see if there is a standard.

Or - buy an inverter that supports the protocol.

If the inverter you have does not support the protocol you will need a computer like a raspberry pi to provide the commands to the FCSP

Lookup "sun spec". Is a standard for registry maps and communication protocols for solar equipment.

Having the HIS, the Delta inverter provided as part of the Sunrun installation seems rock solid. It will support solar and an attached battery up to a reasonable size. The problem with the HIS is in the FCSP. That is the week link. The communication between the FCSP and truck is where things fail so even if you can get an alternative inverter to communicate with the FCSP (which I suspect can be done) the FCSP communication with the truck will make all your work all in vain.

Bluetooth has a maximum range of 30' so while not fantastic it would have been overall an okay choice... The problem is in the FCSP which has a very week signal transmission as well as probably receiver... less than 5 feet away with the cover of we measured -89db. It gets worse from there or around corners... a proper antenna would help immensely but Siemens who makes the FCSP really had the poor engineering and design.
