Chinese battery manufacturer has postponed the construction of a huge factory in the United States.

The reason is the visit of the Speaker of the US House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi to Taiwan, writes Bloomberg.

The Chinese company CATL is the world's largest manufacturer of fuel cells and lithium-ion batteries.

The company was going to start building a giant battery factory for Tesla and Ford electric vehicles.

A $5 billion enterprise would employ 10,000 workers and reduce the cost of manufacturing machines.

Good, hopefully an American company will fill the market demand!
Like who, the Chinese are so far ahead with LFP battery technology and production. Even Tesla’s US TM3 RWD LFP pack is CATL. For decades the Chinese have had inferior technology and benefited (stolen) from mandated co-owning of foreign companies. CATL has the best battery technology in the world and wants to setup a US battery factory in which Ford keeps control (also creates US jobs). A US company now gets to benefit (steal) from a Chinese company/technology. Tesla owns the Shanghai factory. Are those same politicians complaining about Tesla and CCP espionage in China? This seems like a bargaining tool by Ford against the UAW and not a political counter action (Pelosi).

LFP is vital to Ford’s profitability timeline with EVs. IMHO the company’s survival depends upon it.

Over 50% of Tesla’s worldwide EV production use LFP battery packs.

It's just a negotiation tactic for the union contract labor dispute.

I hope it's stopped permanently. Our Governor gave too much taxpayer money away to lure this plant to Michigan, all to satisfy her ego. And the locals don't even want the plant there.

There are plenty of brownfield sites to put this factory, and Ford already owns them. Not to mention the hundreds of millions of dollars saved by not having to install the infrastructure to support an industrial plant in the middle of a farm field

Spot on. I just hope if Ford does make the CATL recipe they at least use the newer one. It would be sad and wasteful if they used their older formula.
