what does everyone who loves tesla software do with the software? (serious question, i am curious)
I guess that's the only thing that stands out to people as being better than other manufacturers.

In any case, a truck isn't a car or SUV either but here we are.

I agree with your plan. I did the same with a 24 Flash, got a super good lease deal Xmas last year. Once lease is up, we'll see what the numbers say. However I am pretty sure I will turn it back in. I even thought about putting an Air Tag in it so I can find what car lot has it and pick it up at a cheaper price!!!
I read a story about a guy who turned in his leased BMW, got the dealer to buy it at the lease auction, and then sell it to him at the current fair market value (which was far less than the residual). The car never left the dealer's lot.

You can make fart noises from every seat in the car and you can make the car fart instead of honking. Sounds stupid but very fun to play with on the way to lunch with some coworkers, haha.

I’m all seriousness though, the UI is way smoother and responsive, but again it can make fart noises.
Wife has a model X and this is dumb.

Now, the rest of the software is much better. Thankfully Ford allows Carplay. If they didn't allow Carplay, I don't know if anyone would buy it. Luckily I just need to use the built in software for HVAC and to enable the in bed power.

I’m not making fun of it, I think it’s hilarious. Did you stop reading my post after that sentence ?

aside from HVAC - are you using other Tesla software features daily?

I legitimately am trying to understand as an EV owner now

What are you trying to understand about Tesla's software exactly? It's very clean, user friendly, information is prioritized, and it is quite learnable as well as intuitive without having to read an instruction guide. The integration between the app, vehicle, and Supercharger network is amazing.

A lot of big and small things are "solved" (if you will), resulting in quality of life improvements for drivers. You know there dev team is really good when they're just able to play and have genuine fun with their releases (e.g. Christmas updates, light show, fart sounds, etc...).

Back to the Lightning - I personally don't use CarPlay and seldom use Android Auto - I prefer to use SYNC which it has become more usable in the past 2-years. Plus this is my way of letting the Ford Software Team that their work is appreciated.

First, I love my Lightning.

As a Tesla andLightning owner for a few years I’ll respond. Let me preface this by stating I love my Lightning but it lacks in the tech arena compared to Tesla.

Here are a few of tech features on our Teslas:

Credit Card passive key that fits in wallet (no bulky FOB)
Phone as a Key works Flawlessly
Apple watch as a Key works flawlessly
Very Frequent Software updates to add new features and resolve bugs
Just walk up to car, open the door and drive without hitting a start button
Exit the car and it turns off and locks the doors for you
Dog Mode that runs climate control and disables window and door locks.
Camp mode
Ability to view dogs in dog mode with interior camera with smart phone
Sports car like handling
4.0+ MI/kh efficiency
Basic Autopilot with traffic aware and lane keeping (free)
Full Self Driving that works great everywhere, not just on limited mapped roads.
Tesla Nav is light years better than Ford Nav.
Tesla Nav with satellite view
Matrix headlights that prevent blinding oncoming traffic
Sentry mode that records from 6-8 cameras
GROK AI activated at touch of button
bioweapon Defense Mode AC

App Features;
Ability to give someone full access to drive (with app) when you are not near your car
See if windows are open with app.
vent windows with app
Close all windows with app
Cabin overheat protection can be enabled when car is parked.
Turn on “Sentry mode” to monitor and record from all cameras.
Ability to see if trunk or frunck is open or closed with app
Ability to see if doors are locked or not and activate lockers with app

I hadn't thought about the AirTag.... But I did turn in a MachE last month. $35k residual, but only $25k Blue Book. If they would have negotiated, I might have kept it. But in the end, it will go to auction, get sold for $22, certified, and sold for $27 (just my guesses). So Ford loses all around. They could've "dumped" it on me for less than it will cost to get rid of it.

She uses it all the time. I rarely drive it, and see the previous posts as it seems they have a lot more experience with it. It’s certainly one of those things when you touch for just a couple minutes you can tell it was well thought out. Think of when you first touched an iPhone.

This! All of this! I was reading the thread preparing to say... well ^^^this! Though, I think flyct said it better than I would have.

We have a Model Y and a Lariat. I do love the truck, but the laggy software really gets old after a couple years. The delay between clicking a virtual button and the system responding kills me. It would be unbearable without Carplay, but that only works 90% of the time and that is also a little laggy sometimes.

One of the biggest things for me and the Tesla is that I LOVE the constant access to the cameras, the always running 360 degree dashcam, and Sentry mode.

Besides my current Lightning, the only other lease I ever had was a very nice Acura RL. At lease end it was worth about $5000 less than the residual. Acura would not accept anything less than the residual to buy it at lease end. They parked it behind the dealership along with dozens of other Acuras that were also lease returns with high residuals. All went to auction.

I asked a friend who was an auction buyer to see if he could bid/buy my Acura at the auction. He said he couldn’t because it was a “closed auction” where only Acura dealers could buy them. I’m sure it went to a dealer, listed on their lot as a CPO car and eventually sold for less than my residual.

Terrific lists.
Also, for the smaller screen, Ford has yet to add Netflix. How hard can it be? I could probably vibe code it for them and have no idea what I'm doing.

I don't get the fascination with watching TV in a parking lot. Read a book.

I agree with this list but I'll add to this one more thing- A navigation system that actually can navigate you to a supercharger with the touch of the screen. Besides the above features that are missing in my Lightning, this is one that drives me batty when we're on road trips. If it wasn't for having a Tesla and knowing the supercharger network along the routes we use, I'd probably not take the Lightning on a road trip after our first experience with road tripping it before Ford got access to Tesla Superchargers.

ty for list! Helpful since usually I just see generic “it’s better”
