I haven't found that to be the case. Yes, the defroster clears the windows ok, but without the heat from an ICE engine, the hood and the cowling with the base of the wipers stays frozen, sometimes complicated by the melt running down the windshield and refreezing in the cowling area.

As mentioned, a heat gun or blow dryer will probably address my concerns (while the hair dryer will take longer, not sure I'd trust myself with a heat gun. With the power those have, I'd probably melt something I don't want to melt or ruin the finish)
That's what the snow brush end of the scraper is for?

I think what you’re experiencing is due to the way the all-season tires behave on ice and snow.
Thankfully haven't experienced it in the real world. It just occurred to me as I was rounding a snow-covered curve the other day. Trust me RickL, if you ever get behind me, you'll be yelling Speed The F Up! I'm old! :)

My son got too energetic with an ice scraper years ago, he had our old Explorer. Broke pieces of plastic trim all over. Hence the term "idiot" in reference to many of his exploits... :D

One thought I've had is to keep an old hair dryer in the frunk that can be used in situations like this. What have others done about issues like this without the heat from an ICE to melt things around the cowling and front end?
I wouldn't keep it in the frunk if there is ice. Store it somewhere in the cabin and use the outlet near the hvac controls.

I've been thinking about getting a cover for my Ligntning to use when we are expecting freezing weather. Has anyone tried one of these? Any recommendations on a good one?

Step one for us was ditching the AT2 all season tires and putting on KO2s - safety over max economy / mileage.

Even though it’s not officially winter on the calendar we have already had a couple of snow storms in New England. I like to leave the Lightning plugged in when not in use so I can set departure times and warm things up a bit before going out. I wasn’t happy with leaving the charging port exposed during a storm so I went looking for a winter cover. Ford sells one for $95, but I found one from 3D Precision Prints on Etsy for less than half Ford’s price. True, Ford’s cover comes with a bag to cover the door when open, but zip lock bags serve the same purpose.

Clever idea on the door cover. 👍

I like the style of the connector cover, but do you think it needs more of an overhang on the top?

We have one of these for our Mustang. But the Lightning is garaged so we don't need it for the truck.

I haven't installed them, but I have some 12v stick-on heating pads that, some day, will be installed onto the underside of the hood to melt the ice and snow that builds up there.

We had another couple of inches of light snow overnight. The charging port cover seems to do a good job of keeping the snow out. I will have to wait to see how it does in an ice storm. And the Ziplock bag is good for storing the cover when not in use!
