I just purchased a 2022 Lightning with a little over 10,000 miles on it. The dealer tried to sell me additional warranty up to 100,000 miles for something over $4000. I decided to talk to a Ford dealership instead. Did I make the right decision? I can still go back and sign up.

I haven't made the plunge yet, but may be doing so.

A lot of folks seem to go for the 8-year/100k, extended warranty to match the truck HBV warranty/timeframe (the battery pack = high-voltage battery). Note when/if you buy that, it is technically adding 5 years warranty to the original 3's end time (not 8 from when you buy).

Just noticed you're a '22, so even though low mileage, your truck is (I assume) out of warranty by date, so you will pay more. This may even alter what I just stated above. Granger is a forum supported vendor here and quite a few verified purchases on the forum (you can also search "Granger" in the search area).

Good luck and P.S. - you're wanting the Premium EV coverage, and folks recommend adding the LED light package at the end to cover other oopsies not covered. There is a Premium EV Maintenance warranty as well, that is not this topic (and make sure that's not what you're choosing).

Never buy a 3rd party warranty.

You can buy a Ford warranty from Granger Ford online, but not after 41 months from first date sold.

When I bought my 22 demo I used part of the discount to add 10 year Ford warranty. It only had 800 miles on it but the peace of mind for what is a rolling computer system was a huge relief. I think it worked out to about $500 a year. Best part was it was a Platinum in IBS and had no deletes on it like the 23 I ordered that had a price tag of $113k versus the $101k I paid for the 22 with $2000 shipping plus all fees, taxes, title, tags, etc. in that out the door price. So far the only big problem with it was it would not update and after 3 weeks in the shop the dealer finally figured out as they were getting ready to install a new comm system that the truck and the mother ship, in the best terms I can think of, were dialing the wrong numbers. ET could not call home. Once they set the correct input and output numbers, it updates perfectly and is on the early adopter list.
