I just charged at Tesla using the A2Z adapter and everything was flawless - plug and play, peak of 165 kw charge speed. I had to take 2 spots, but it was not full.

This is a game changer for traveling.

Dumb Q - is A2Z the charger we are getting shipped from Ford, or another one people are buying themselves?

Were buying them ourselves. It's not super expensive and for those like me about to go on a loooong trip, I don't have the luxury of waiting for Fords. So I bought the A2Z one to use and it works perfectly. It'll last me til the official one arrives but at least I won't have to cross the country relying on EA.

A2Z is a 3rd party provider, not the official Ford adapter. But for many of us, it will be months before the Ford adapter arrives. Whenever mine finally arrives, I will either keep this as a backup or sell it.

But for now, it makes traveling much more convenient having so many options to charge.

Ok, another dump question. Can the A2Z adapter or the Ford adapter be used on other EV's
IE: BMW's, Mercedes, Mini Copper's

No and yes. No it can't be used at the current time. Tesla must open their sites to each brand. Once Tesla allows access then the adapter will work. Currently only Ford and Rivian brands have access. The others will gain access over time.

I charged at a Tesla site for the first time this week. No plug and play but the Tesla app worked. Then yesterday in the way to the NC mountains I was unable to charge at a Tesla supercharger and had to stop at Circle K in Boone. I will try the Tesla superchargers in Boone on the way home tomorrow. Odd.

Have you received the update for the Lightning that allows you to charge at Tesla superchargers?

OK, embarrassingly naive question here...

When you say "Plug and Play" - what does that mean?

So far I have only used EA for DC fast charging, and I just activate it through the EA app.

I'm guessing this is through the truck itself directly in some way?

Apologies - I feel this is a super basic piece of information I should already know, but have forgotten...

To clarify, it's not an adapter limitation. There's no brains inside it that will prevent one vehicle from charging vs another.

Currently, the Tesla charger communicates directly with the vehicle and determines if the vehicle is authorized to charge there. So if Tesla hasn't authorized specific vehicle brands to charge at their stations, it doesn't matter what adapter you use, it won't work.

All that said, assuming Tesla allowed all EV vehicles to charge at their chargers then yes the A2Z or Ford adapter should work with any vehicle with the corresponding connector.

They're referring to Plug and Charge, the technology that allows us, Tesla, and a few others to simply plug in and start charging. It's available on your app under connected services and blue oval network.

If you have received the Tesla OTA update, you can start charging automatically at Tesla Superchargers, otherwise you'll have to initiate via the app. Every time I've used my A2Z adapter so far, it charges within less than a minute from plugging in. Faster than EA it feels like, I appreciate being able to plug in and walk knowing it's just going to work.

Did you make sure the second station was available to use? Not all Supercharger stations will be open to us.

I did not. Today I did stop at the Tesla chargers in Boone NC and successfully charged after a failed attempt. My view is some chargers are not open and the lock on the A2Z is a bit fiddly. So the two add up to failures, sometimes my fault and sometimes not. On the way up I charged a Circle K charger across the street with no problems.
