If Ford cancels the Lightning, we would drive our Lightning until its wheels fell off, convert the battery into a whole home backup, then buy a new BEV from a different manufacturer. Will never go back to gas, but I see no reason not to continue driving the truck I already own.

But Ford’s self-inflicted loss would be some other manufacturer’s gain.

/shrug

All that said, this is a rumor started by an anti-EV pundit that’s now echoing around in the echo chamber without any kind of valid sources. It’s not as if we can trust dealerships, who have been actively discouraging people from buying EVs.

I notice a lot more lightning contractor trucks lately. The fleet world was just catching on to the idea of reduced fuel cost and maintenance.
We have a lot of lightnings in my area as @Kev12345 said the contractors have purchased lots of them. I am also seeing them used by electric utility companies, solar power companies, telephone companies, the City of Calgary, and also a Ford dealership for customer service shuttles. At the present time new Lightning Flash's cost less then new XLT's in town.

It would be unfortunate. I was not a Mach E fan when it released. Turns out Its a FANTASTIC car. Especially for a first attempt. I know they worked a lot of bugs out over the years but at this point it is a solid car. My wife will never let me buy her another car unless it is a new Mach e. My Daughters first car was a 2018 Mustang and was she felt the Mach E wasnt a "Real" Mustang. Now after her Mom bought one and she has experienced one she is now wanting a MAch E as her next car.

As far as the Lightning.. I cant see myself buying anything else. I love my Truck. I can only imagine how good the second gen would be. I will be very happy I bought my Lightning versus leasing if it is true. We have saved so much money on Gas and oil changes. I cant see myself going back to ICE.. I love the Raptor and would have loved to have gotten one before but I didnt when I could have.

Today is a perfect example of us saving probably two tanks worth of gas. My wife had to do a bunch of driving to take her Grand mother to Doctor appts. THey live na hour away.. I installed a charger there. My wife got there topped off. Drove Gma to her appointments and got back to her house at 55% and topped off again to 80 and will come home. This would have easily used two tanks of gas in her old Explorer.

I have seen a recent increase in Lightnigns in Dallas. I see them very frequently versus not so often before. This is over the past year Ive owned one. Also just based off my daily commute and driving on the weekend. It was a pretty rare occurrence to see one. I think Ford is making in roads they just need to wait it out and come out with the second gen Lightning. I think that should be priority number one to be honest. I think the Truck market is the exact right market to focus on.

I dont think most people realize just how much range 200-300 miles is.

I sure hope Jim Farley decides to continue on with the EVs. I think it would be a huge mistake to abandon the EVs. They have already dedicated so much time and effort and resources.. To have to spin all that back up if "things" change.. would be a mess.

The writing was on the wall when they "paused" production. The Lightning has never made money and has no realistic path to profitablity. It was a fun experience and I appreciate Ford subsidizing my truck.

I’m mainly concerned with how a potential cancellation would affect the resale and maintenance support for existing trucks. I really like truck but I have doubts now that I may have taken a poor risk with Ford.
It's still an F150; maintenance support should be fine. Resale...eh, probably not great.

Wonder what extended warranty support would be like.
Ford isn't going out of business, they just won't make Lightnings anymore. They are still responsible for the warranty of every Lightning that was produced.

Right now, we’re focused on producing F-150 ICE and Hybrid as we recover from the fire at Novelis. We will bring Rouge Electric Vehicle Center back up at the right time, but don’t have an exact date at this time.
Ford: Please don't cancel the Lightning. I understand the problem is that people are slow to get on board. But it seems to be happening. Every week I see more and more Lightnings on the road - mostly non-contractor models! It would seem to me (by my random driving and observing, which I suppose is a type of seat-of-the-pants random sampling) shows that the momentum is building. When I meet other Lightning owners, each one of them loves their truck too.

When friend and coworkers ask me about my Lightning, I tell them that is as if it is five cars in one: a sports car with 0 to 60 mph in 3.8 s, it is a luxury-riding sedan, it is a grocery-getter with its huge frunk, it is an economy car with 2.3 m/kWh so about 78 mpge, its an all-wheel drive truck - great for the family to haul stuff as needed. It is great in the snow. It is fun to drive. It won't rust.

Many Lightning owners, like me, think that the Marketing efforts for the Lightning were not good. It doesn't show this playing out. It doesn't show people who can talk to these points.

Maybe you need to leverage your user community?

Don't give up now. Momentum is building.

sw engineering manager,
Ford currently sells the most popular EV pickup truck product in America. Pickups are one of the best selling categories of vehicles. The future is EVs. The future of pickups are EVs. Slowing down or halting their program would let everyone else catch up. What a bad idea.

Guess what the largest market share disruptor in automotive, Tesla, is doing? Getting better and better at EVs.

Guess what Rivian is doing? EVs. Only EVs.

Guess what up and comers Kia and Hyundai are doing? More EVs.

Guess what category others who want to get into EV's are starting with? Small pickups.

I tell people the Lightning is the best thing. A regular F150 is better, faster, and quieter. It is not weird like the Cyber Truck and not bulky like the Chevy(plus it has Carplay). It is just a F150. It is incredibly sad to make the gas ones and not any electric for people to not be able to choose the Ford electric.

I think Ford can see one thing I hope. We are all pretty passionate about our Lightnings. I say this to everyone. It’s the best vehicle I’ve ever owned. Easily. And I don’t even have all the bells and whistles. It still beats the pants off of everything I’ve ever owned. I hope production starts back sooner rather than later. It will stink to lose that top spot too. But no matter what. I’ll keep loving and boasting about this truck!

And I’ll say this too. I don’t live in a Pro EV part of the world but I constantly get compliments on this truck. From gear-heads to police officers. It constantly surprises me.
