I loved the feel of Rivian but I still believe I made the right choice with my Pro and would do it again.

I am surprised by CT YTD sale and how close it is to Lightning.

p.s. R1T started selling in September of 2021. So Lightning being the best selling EV truck of “All Time” is not that impressive yet.

I also like the Rivian, but agree on buying the Lightning was a better choice. If Rivian is still around in 10 years I might end up buying one as I'd be closer to retirement and would be my last vehicle.

I wonder about future vehicles - maybe my Lightning is the last one that doesn't full time drive itself...so future vehicles will not require me to drive them. Imagine one day you're 85 years old and get a new truck, that self-drives and you just get in, tell it where you want to go. Your health and ability to drive are no longer limitations on getting around, even out in rural areas where there are few options.

I was hoping that this would be the reality by 2030. Sadly North America has stopped moving forward because of certain people that I will not name. The future of the NA auto industry is not good. China innovates are break neck speed. New modal yrs are no longer taking yrs to change but months. The Mustang MachE is now old with no replacement in sight. The US is fixated on blowing the NA auto market supply chain up. Canada is now the villain, so lets increase the cost of raw materials by 50% because that will make us great again. Really??? Wake up US, the dream is dying.
On a different note, nice that you are dreaming about being alive at age 85. This is not the average age of a male in the US. Good for you!

I like the R1T, but it's a "little fellow" compared with the others. I wanted a full size truck. Not a SUV with the backend made into a truck 'like' bed.

Hear, hear! I agree wholeheartedly with your preference for real trucks, defined as vehicles that emphasize a bed for hauling rather than an SUV interior. My 25 year old Ranger had a longer bed than my new Lightning does. I would have jumped at a 2-seat Lightning with a ≥7 foot bed. That's just my personal preference, but surely many others share it, especially professionals needing work trucks.

The huge cabin in the sort-of-truck, sort-of-SUV Lightning does have some advantages (it's a great changing room for sailing, surfing, diving, etc. and passengers love it), and the vehicle has been excellent overall, so this isn't so much a complaint as a feature request for...someday. Also gotta respect the perfect design for the Family of Five crowd who have no doubt been keeping the all-time numbers up.

I imagine a HAL-Dave conversation where I want to cross a uniform featureless field and the truck responds “I’m sorry… but you cannot go there”. Then I switch to decimal coordinates and the truck responds “You are communicating accurately now”.

My mom is 96, Dad passed at 94,
All four Grandparents all made it into their 90's
keep active, watch what you eat, and drink, and learn something new everyday - I imagine 30 more years or so...but who knows.

I love the look of the Rivian, and I would have considered one, were it not for this wee little thing here called price....

The LOWEST PRICE R1T in Canada starts at over $130k. To get one with slightly better EPA range as the Flash trim lightning i bought, I woulda spent $145k.

That means I could have bought my truck (~$80k msrp), AND my ID4 brand new (~$60k msrp), for the price of the R1T.

R1T sales will continue to falter until they are not astronomically high priced vehicles.
