My dealer called me to schedule a mobile service for my parking sensor update. I did not have an issue so I figured I would wait.

While on the phone, I mentioned my mobile charger (second one) was displaying the amber light about 15 min. after starting a charge. The dealer rep. told me the charger is not an issue and Ford just released a software update to address the mobile charger issue.

Anyone else ever hear of the mobile charger software update? Tech is coming to my home on Tuesday, so we will see if it works.

I was somewhat suspicious. It will be interesting what the tech says when he shows up.

Edit: I looked at my Ford Pass App. for the CSPs. Apparently the one update Ford is referring to is CSP 23B50, Charge cord stuck reprogram battery charge control module. My charge cord has never been stuck, but this program is what Ford claims will address the mobile charger amber light.

That won’t fix it. And I don’t think Ford claims that it will, the dealer is.

This is my second mobile charger because the first one displayed the amber light as well. Right now the current one is charging at 3.2kw.

When the dealer called to perform mobile service, I told them I needed a new charger (again). The lady at the dealer claimed this update would fix the issue, but like I said before I was skeptical.

She did say if the charger still shows the amber light, they would get me a new one.

The first and second charger seemed to work ok for about six months, then the amber light. I wanted to wait until winter so Ford would not say the ambient temps. were too high.

Early on, this amber light issue was because the plug dongle (short cable that connects charger to outlet) wasn't fully seated or needed to be re-seated.

Mobile service came out today to do updates.
No surprise that the update did not correct the mobile charger issue. I am taking the truck and charger in on Monday the 23rd so the dealer can evaluate the charger before they order a new one.

I don't know how long you plan on keeping your truck, but if you keep it past the 3 year 36k mile warranty, you should consider buying a better EVSE. The mobile charger isn't an everyday solution.

I agree. I can't tell you how many times I had the Emporia 40A charger in my cart. One of these days I will click the order button

Just do it. You won't regret it. Never had a problem with mine and the app is fantastic.

For those reading along who may not know....23B50 is a FSA for a set of powertrain updates to the truck (and Mach-E as well). Nothing to do with portable, or any other type of EVSE.

Picked the truck up today. The dealer replaced the charger cable. I was watching the charge rate remotely after the cable was replaced and it charged at a consistent 6.5kw.

Emporia charger is still in my cart.

From your vehicle choice, it appears that you're (1) not made of money and (2) value conscious. Respect to that. I'll add $0.02 worth of vote in favor of the Emporía EVSE and add that the online deal sites seem to have some coupons that have worked for many people.

I've been using an Emporía charger for almost 3 years now. Trouble free? Not perfectly so. Every now and then, I plug it into my wife's Mach-E and it just sits there. I think I can hear it saying, "Yeah, so what??" So I grab a phone, get on the app, select the charger, and push the button to tell it to start, and there's no trouble after that. The other 95+% of the time, it just works. Never a hint of overheating, no loss of charging speed, it charges at the rate requested, etc.

A possible concern is that unlike some chargers (Grizzl-E, Wallbox, ...) the Emporía requires a net connection to the company to be controlled. If the company ever pulls a Juicebox, it won't be good for owners. I've seen no evidence that this is likely to happen, though. If you're into home integration, the lack of OCPP support (as far as I know) might be problematic.

There are imperfections with every such device, but the consensus of this group seems to be that the unit in your cart would be a good choice, especially if/when you can get it for a discount.

Edit: Non-disclaimer -- I have no relationship with Emporía except being a mostly satisfied customer.
