Farley said in a recent interview that really expensive EVs are not the future of the market, and his primary goal is to sell less expensive vehicles going forward. You can clearly see this in the massive decontenting they've done on Lighting in 2025. And this new truck (and the T3 truck) are both going to be on dedicated EV platforms that make manufacturing far less expensive.

So, after the 2027 model year it is highly likely that ICE F-150 and EV F-150 (if they even call it a F-150) are going to become two totally different trucks.

Opinion only but I think the Lightning's demise is being over predicted. The smaller, cheaper "truck" may not compete as much as we think and there will be those willing to spend the additional money to get into a truck they are familiar with, has all wheel drive, powers the house twice as long, tows twice as much ...and so on. The new vehicle should appeal to the budget consious suburban home owner or hobby farmer that wants electric but thinks they need/want⁷ a truck.

I expect the new EV plateform targets a completly different segment than the Lightning.
They built the factory for the Lightning, and as long as these are selling, they will build them - trying to recapture the cost that is already sunk into that facility.
The next change to Lightning will come when the battery tech allows more range for lower cost with faster charging in the same/similar space under the truck. I feel this will be by 2028-2030 but who knows, battery tech is rapidly changing and could surprise us.

I think people said the same thing about the Maverick. And then the Maverick started selling literally faster than they could build them.

People want a smaller, and more importantly less expensive, truck. If Ford offers this new EV truck at the $35k price point or thereabouts that they've promised, it'll sell like hotcakes.

I suggest the better conjunction (I had to look that word up because I have not used it since high school :facepalm:) is "and" versus "or" ... as in "Ford is likely to manufacture the new smaller EV platform truck and the larger F-150 EV platform truck."

only way to lower price is to change the way the vehicle is manufactured. they will need to go the way of Tesla and use gigapress and less parts. also need to get rid of all the third party parts that require a extra computer to interpret third party software and make all the parts work together. Tesla has one computer.

I actually genuinely hope this is what it is lol. A 4 door ute, something that looked like a sports car with a bed would be incredible. Ford already offers so much variety in the truck market, small, mid-sized, full-sized, all sorts of prices and powertrains, everything from full EV to a supercharged 5.2. On and off-road performance.

Basically the only type of truck Ford doesn't offer is a lifestyle ute with sporty, futuristic styling. If that's what this new truck is, I believe it'll fill out their Ford truck product range really nicely.
