I'm thinking that they do. The little not-Maverick-not-Ranger EV truck and whatever this T3 will be.

Agreed. The small one is aimed at the mass market / price point focused crowd. The larger "T3" will try to apply some of what they learn through that development to a larger & more premium slice of the market to replace the Lightning.

In recent weeks, we’ve learned a few details about the as-of-now-unnamed, upcoming mid-size Ford EV pickup that’s set to enter production in the next couple of years. There’s still a lot we don’t now about this future model, too, but details continue to trickle out a little at a time, helping to paint a clearer picture in that regard. The latest pertains to the availability of the new Ford EV pickup, which apparently won’t only be sold in the U.S.

Rather, the future mid-size Ford EV pickup will be built at the Louisville Assembly plant for both the U.S. and “export markets,” according to the automaker itself, a revelation that stems from the unveiling of its new universal EV platform. Such a move makes sense given the fact that Ford previously stated that its new low-cost platform is designed to help it better compete with burgeoning rivals from China. In the case of the pickup, Ford is targeting a “super affordable” $30k starting price tag.

What we also know about the future mid-size Ford EV pickup is that it will be offered exclusively in four-door guise, while owners will be able lock their gear in the bed without the need for a roof rack or trailer hitch racks. It’s expected to be closer in size to the Maverick than the Ford Ranger, and the new model will reportedly be as quick as a Mustang EcoBoost, with more room inside than a Toyota RAV4. It’s slated to launch in 2027 and tout a potential max annual capacity of 190,000 units.

The future model will reportedly offer up 51 kWh of usable energy from its LFP battery pack, which is quite tiny when compared to most EVs on the market today. However, it may also be offered with nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) batteries as well. On top of that, Ford CEO Jim Farley stated that the “sleek and digital” pickup will be able to power a home for upwards of six days, too, but towing won’t be a priority, it seems.

wow 51kWh. Not sure I'd even make it to my parent's house ~120 miles away on a single charge. They're going to need to hire someone from Lucid to crank up the efficiency or it'll only be good for around town.

Guess it depends how hard you mash on the skinny peddle on the right? (kidding - I feel you on range anxiety)

Indeed. The lightning uses about that much each way running 55-60mph @ 2.2mi/kWh. If i take the interstate it would use about 70kWh.

I'm taking mine out on only my 3rd trip out of state, but fortunately, there are plenty of charging options up and down I75 into the wild hither lands of TN. I'll charge to 100% tonight and let her rip tomorrow.

Really hoping that "51kw" battery is an entry level one to keep the base price down for advertising, or this thing will be a FLOP. Even if they get the efficiency up to 3.0 mi/kwh (very hard in a truck form factor), that would be a 150mi range in ideal conditions. And LFP takes a bigger hit in the cold than NMC.....

Ford F-150 Lightning Ford Universal EV Platform Announced: Innovation Meets Efficiency in New EV Platform, Assembly Process and Midsize Truck kup-Official-Teaser-Exterior-001-Front-End-850x478

Though it has yet to be revealed – and we don’t even know what it will be called – we have learned a few details about the future mid-size Ford EV pickup set to be built at the Louisville Assembly plant starting in 2027. Many of those details have been unveiled by Ford CEO Jim Farley himself in various appearances and interviews, and that once again happened when the executive appeared on a podcast – revealing that the forthcoming EV pickup will utilize a rear-wheel drive format – though we also imagine that it will be offered with all-wheel drive, too.

“Our first body style will be a pickup, but it’s really not a pickup,” Farley said during an appearance on The Verge‘s Decoder podcast. “I would say it’s a new silhouette. What I mean by that is that it has more room than a RAV4, the best-selling passenger car in the US. That doesn’t include its frunk and pickup truck bed. It is very fast, it’s rear-wheel drive, it’s super fun to drive, and it has a digital experience that no one’s seen – at least that we’ve seen – even in China.”

A recent report indicated that the new mid-size Ford EV pickup will be “sleek and aerodynamic” in appearance, and features a “mostly digital interior featuring a large screen.” It’s actually closer in size to the compact Ford Maverick than the mid-size Ford Ranger, allegedly, though we have yet to be presented with any photos to back up those claims. Ford previously stated that the pickup will be “as fast as a Mustang EcoBoost” and will offer “more passenger space than the latest Toyota RAV4 – with a frunk and a bed,” giving owners the ability to lock their surfboards or other gear in the bed without the need for a roof rack or trailer hitch racks. It will reportedly utilize a very small battery, too.

The new Ford EV pickup will only be offered in four-door guise with lithium-iron phosphate (LFP) battery packs, and a targeted starting price of $30,000. Otherwise, there’s still a lot we don’t know about the forthcoming model – its actual reveal date, final starting price, EPA-estimated battery range, and charging times. However, as Ford Authority previously reported, it could use the Ranchero name, based on a recent trademark filing in the U.S.
