HV battery junction box?

Sorry for clarity. I was wondering if previous owner had saw those codes and traded/sold the truck because of it.

Second, in forums like this, the ones with problems are far more likely to post. They go looking for answers (like yourself) and post the problems. People that don't have problems are probably not going to bother.

Regarding the previous owner - probably! but I don't know him, and I only found out about these issues after the sale and the vehicle failure / issues. None of this showed up on the vehicle alert history w/o a Ford dealer pulling the data. Crooked.

How long ago did you purchase the used 2022 lightning. Did the selling dealer give you any kind of extended warranty? Did you pull up a carfax report on it to see it's track record?

Who knows why they sold the truck? But there should be some form of history with it.

Hi - I purchased the vehicle on 6/14, it broke down 6/27. I have the current vehicle warranty (Still in 3 year / 36K). Yes I viewed the carfax - it only indicated that the vehicle was serviced at regular intervals, and a few repairs (vague). Basically carfax, and the selling dealership inspection indicated the vehicle was in good working order / reliable.

What was not provided was the fact that DAILY the vehicle was experiencing powertrain failure alerts... and these did not show up on the fordpass alerts, or any indication on the actual vehicle. Something is very fishy.

The truck isn't going to die on a highway. If it fails it will refuse to start and you can have it towed. There's a very high chance you'll make it home.

Presumably, you are planning on being at your current location for a few more days. Drive it, gain confidence. If it dies again you are in the same situation you're in now.

Just playing out the options. If it were me I'd want to get it home so I didn't have to wait for to be fixed or drive 1000 miles to pick it up.

A quick search, from this website, indicates a separate recall with the HV junction box. Ford indicates this can result in increased risk of fire, as well as potential vehicle power loss which increases the risk of crash.

Yes - I got those after the fact. I had to physically call the dealership that initially sold the truck, and speak with the general manager for them to release the records.

Here are the records from the actual dealership (not the one that sold it) reports. Note that these details were not in CARFAX, and not disclosed to me at time of sale. Note I bought this as a used vehicle from a Chevy dealership.

1. Active Air Dam (TSB 24-2404)
2. rear coolant pump (error codes p0b3a, p0b38, u0647) due to full of corrosion on both ends and the pump broken
3. battery control module -BECM replacement (recall 23B57), then again for the same thing but just a part was changed - the battery monitor sensor (23B70B)
4. rear light bar (23S30),
5. dash mat (23B11)
6. front hatch (24P24)
7. inoperative front parking sensors (24B56)

Just going to point out there are ICE car fires in my local area almost daily, certainly a couple a week, and that's only the ones thatake it on a local Facbook group. If it were a EV fire, you would see it everywhere. Not saying can't happen, but if your truck is not part of that recall, I wouldn't be concerned about. Fyi, there is another recall ongoing where there is an small alignment issue with some cells of the battery pack. Those trucks should be charged to max 80% until replacement, but are otherwise safe. It's a small number. Again, if it's not your truck don't worry about it.

This is new tech that car companies are still learning best practices and pitfalls. So some issues are to be expected. Besides it not like ICE cars are trouble free. Toyota and GM are replacing entire engines thousands of vehicles. Nissan tranmissions have been a frequent issue. I know someone that Lia bought the car back due to engine issues with that model and told them to go buy another vehicle. Toyota subsidiaries have been caught up in several scandals in Japan Point being, there is not absolutely teuoble free vehicles from any manufacturer.

Sure - I get it. But literally the dealership currently working on my truck indicated it is the HV junction box. If that part fails or is faulty, the truck can literally just turn off. It was described to me as the fuse box and brain for the HV. So, in replying to the other guys post, I am saying no it is absolutely not safe to drive it right now. Especially with kids.

I get that all cars / vehicles have issues. But when there is an acute issue with a vehicle, it is helpful to be precise about the recommendations and not blanket say "yea its safe to drive". That is not good advice.

Looks like most of those were probably recalls. There have been a number of those. the rear cooling pump would not have been. Battery modules, some have been for recalls other had some failures. I think all the others have had recalls and I believe those are what those are, but I don't specifically know that to be the case.

Being precise is exactly what I was trying to get at. It doesn't appear your diagnosis has been common. Any vehicle can fail suddenly. I had a 2019 Ranger that had an injector fail suddenly. Truck wasn't but a few months old. There was no new tech in that truck, it was just new to the US market. Had been available in other markets for many years. Still bought another one a couple years later because trade value was so high, and I had lots of rebates in hand. Right when the Tsunami in the car market was on the horizon in 21, but hadn't hit just yet.

I recently took my truck in for service (CSPs) and the advisor showed me their screen with all the information the truck sends to them over the cloud. Far more information that we get in FordPass and in the truck. There were lots of fault codes. But keep in mind that cars throw codes that are transient or simply can be ignored. This is true in my personal experience with several different makes. A parameter can be out of spec for a millisecond and a code is stored but nothing is really wrong. Of course, codes can indicate an actual problem and part failure. The app and truck will only show you faults that Ford thinks you really need to take action on. In your case, it may be that the truck detected something was not right but it just wasn't "bad enough" to alert you or shut the truck down.

I recommend getting a Ford PremiumCare extended warranty. You have to buy it while still in the 3/36 warranty (but there may be a grace period, I know there was in the past). So act fact. Granger Ford has excellent prices online.

I don't have a suggestion about this specific issue, but I totally sympathize with @kdxkid because of the uncertainty of trusting a remote dealership's expertise. Also, being away from home with small kids will dramatically reduce your risk acceptance, for sure. I hope this gets resolved ASAP and that the Ford BEV team can facilitate. My personal experience with my truck has been amazingly great, and it's the best vehicle I have ever owned.

Thanks - and exactly my point. The dealership working the issue here is actually quite friendly, and I am learning they have the capability to work on the vehicle. It is just really hard to understand how to handle this being so far from home.

I'd say . . cut your losses, you say the dealer working on your truck is friendly (Good sign) Hopefully they have competent techs. If I was in your shoes (I'm not), I'd rent a car and get the family home. Stay in contact with the dealer, keep that friendly situ going, and let the dealer do their thing. Hopefully it will be repaired sooner rather than later.
Is this gonna hurt, ya, maybe. You'll be renting a vehicle when you already have a vehicle (That is in the shop). As mentioned above, try contacting the BEV team, see IF they can do anything for you (Get a rental cheap/free, expedite the repair). I Feel for you. Fortunately I came to this forum w/o a problem to discuss, but to learn from others about this great (IMO) vehicle. Wishing you the best, my friend...
