Meet the AI Assistant That Knows Your Vehicle Better Than You Do

In 1999, I was a first-year MBA student at Dartmouth. I recall a group of my classmates sitting in the back of the class. They weren’t taking notes; they were trading stocks on their laptops. Between classes, we downloaded music on Napster. That same year, Blogger launched, and suddenly you didn’t need to know how to code to have a voice on the internet.

What I remember most about that moment wasn’t the technology itself — it was the momentum shift. The internet stopped being a place you visited and became a capability you used. It almost instantaneously weaved itself into how we worked, how we consumed, and how we connected. I hadn’t felt that same shift, the same change in velocity, until now.

AI feels like that again. But this time, it’s not about connectivity. It’s about cognition. And just like the early days of the internet, we’re at the point where the question isn’t whether this will transform how we live. It’s whether we’ll build it to truly be useful.

Imagine you’re at the lumber yard staring at a stack of firewood — cords, half-cords, bundles — ready to load up. Instead of guessing or using a tape measure, you snap a photo on your phone and ask: “How much of this will fit in my truck bed?”

Within seconds, the assistant analyzes the stack, estimates volume, and translates it into real terms — how many bundles, or what fraction of a cord — based on your Ford truck’s exact bed length and tie-down configuration. It’s a seamless experience that blends Ford-specific vehicle knowledge with the job in front of you, even if you’re nowhere near the truck.


App First: Intelligence for Everyone

We are not waiting for a distant future to deliver this. Starting in the first half of 2026, the Ford AI assistant will begin arriving in your Ford or Lincoln App and will reach up to 8 million customers. (And our commercial customers can expect a purpose-built AI tool designed specifically for them — more to come on that soon.)

We chose an "app first" approach because it allows us to reach millions of Ford customers faster. You shouldn't have to wait to buy a brand-new vehicle to experience the future of Ford intelligence. With an in-app launch, we can deliver advanced features and personalized assistance to the Ford you already own.

How about fixing and refining the systems you already have; like Sync and Bluecruise?

Why not just make a more functional Ford app? This seems like a complete waste of time and resources.

This just makes it even more clear that Ford has the wrong priorities.

To date we still don’t have the following:

-Route planning (how is this still non-existent)
-Manual DCFC preconditioning (how is this still non-existent)
-Support for 3rd party data and statistics
-Reliable preferred charge and departure times with FCSP.
-Reliable HIS functionality

First, give it a chance and try it.

If Ford Assistant knows all about FDRS and FORScan and could advise where your truck is on updates, that would be something (I guess, since FORScan is in a gray area, the FORScan bit will never happen). But AI has a breadth and depth most human minds will never reach. Just like the Model-T, I'm sure Ford Assistant and AI in general will continue to evolve at an impressive rate.

Is Ford willing to take on the liability of ai slop giving people confidence they can load 3000 or 4000 pounds of material into the bed of their truck? If they’re not, then they shouldn’t be pushing this nonsense.

I’m glad I disabled automated updates on both our vehicles. Sadly, now I’ll have to worry that any kind of recall fix that involves software updates will be accompanied by this garbage.

There are so many other options out there that do the same thing, I don't understand the justification for wasting time and resources on this.

The reality is that 90% of the human population is too stupid to know that a vehicle has a max payload and not to overload it.

Of the remaining 10%, 50% of them know, and don't care.

Of the last 5%, they know how to count bags of mulch, read the weight on the bag, and multiply, then add a buffer for safety.

In 1964 Ford sold the first Mustang three days before it was officially announced. Immediately after the announcement anyone could go to a dealership and buy a Mustang or at least order one.

In 2026 Ford announced a new feature in an app and we can't get it until "the first half of 2026." This new feature will be available in cars "by 2027." This would be fine if they didn't have a recent history of over-promising and under-delivering.

Now, I'm going to go enjoy my built-in Android Automotive in my Ford T3 truck.

Your negative folks on AI need to carry a little card in your wallet that says in the event of an emergency you don’t want to be treated with anything related to AI. Put your money where your mouth is.

AI can now interpret radiographs better and more reliably than human radiologists, e.g., mammograms. Deep Mind scientists won the Nobel Prize for AlphaFold, which no human mind can duplicate. Ford obviously has a long way to go even in things that rely solely on the human mind, let alone AI.
