Lightning Software Updates using FDRS

Seriously......how difficult would it be to add a service procedure to FDRS for the IPMA to write the config that enables the features? FORScan ftw.

Looking for the opportunity to observe a San Francisco Bay Area Lightning owner update their own vehicle using FDRS. I am an old man with a 23 Lariat experienced in following members directions for all the FORScan modifications. Now that I am beyond the 3 year warranty FDRS updates are on me. I am not asking someone to risk modifying my vehicle. Just a show and tell before I set out on my own installing updates and updating my asbuilt at my risk. Thanks in advance.

Well just to clear any misinformation for others. Warranty or not you were always on the hook for updates via FDRS. The only way Ford would cover such things is if they could tie it to a warranty claim. They will not just do updates unless they can get paid. Having said that if you have a really good relationship with your dealer “maybe” they could do something for you but normally it’s not something they would just do.

FDRS is pretty straightforward. If you've managed forscan, it should be easy peasy. The big thing is to make sure you have an adequate power supply (75amp+). A normal trickle charger isn't going to work.

Oh, I think you'll be fine with FDRS if you manually flashed the IPC with FORScan. FDRS is just guided routines that literally walk you through the process, puts all the files where they need to go for you in the background. You just click and nod while sipping your beer and it does everything for you. All you need to do is cycle the ignition on and off as needed and/or insert the USB drive back and forth between the laptop and the truck when needed.

Yeah if you survived the ipc in forscan, then you should be good. That was way more involved than anything fdrs will throw at you

It is very easy. There are plenty of youtube videos on how to use it that you can watch to get acquainted with the process before you dive in. We're also here to help along the way.

Believe @Aminorjourney ordered a mongoose so there's probably going to be lots of FDRS goodness coming.

Actually, it is the opposite. I added the WAL toggle via FORScan but haven't got the BCM update. I updated my '23 truck in May 2025 via FDRS, but wasn't able to update the BCM due to the password required.

Status update:

I was able to have my dealer update the BCM and now I have walk away locks.
