I'm starting to seriously explore a lowering kit. My main motivation is to get my vehicle to fit in a 6'7" parkade (I live in an apartment building), especially with a bed cap that is ~2" taller than the top of the cab which, in conjunction with the significant rake, results in a total height of 6'10" at the tail.

These are the options I'm aware of at this point:
  • full Icon kit (coilovers & camber) ... expensive!
  • Belltech coilovers + Icon camber kit
  • Eibach coilovers + Icon camber kit
Are there any others? How do these compare with each other?

Love my icon kit. You get what you pay for. Everything else is a compromise that will eventually fail your suspension. I did 2" drop in front and 4" rear. Compliments everywhere I go. Firmer suspension for better handling while still being silky on the highway.

Get the Eibach + Icon Kit, it's all you need. Unfortunately other than these three I don't think there are any other Lightning Specific kits. But I will say the Eibach is more of a Level Down kit vs a lowering kit.

This is my first truck ever … what does that mean? Still learning about truck stuff.

He's talking about lowering the rear so it is level with the front without doing anything to the front. This is a better appearance on this truck because it has a severe rake which many find unattractive. Makes the truck look like it was kick kicked in the butt.

I don't recommend that though, lowering shocks which I have performed on my truck previously caused the ride to be overly stiff because you take the compliance out of the spring.

My very strong advice having done all the different lowering options already is to either do a full replacement suspension with icon or leave it alone. Don't half ass anything.

So essentially Eibachs either lowers the front a minimal amount in and significantly lowers the rear to get it level with the front. I think the front lowers like .5 while the rear lowers 2.9. If you look at your front now it will essentially stay the same as .5 at least to me makes 0 difference.

With the Icon I think you can lower the front a lot more but then have to deal with camber and ride quality. Eibach is set while with a True Coilver you can do what you want. If you look around at this pic there's very little difference in the front, the lowering comes from the rear.

I went the opposite with lifting, so my front is lifted to match the rear full Eibach Shocks/Springs front and rear. The ride is exceptional, ride quality is close to stock and handling is amazing. EIbach did a great job with this combo. You cant go wrong with them, they have significant history in the suspension game.

Eibach makes good stuff. The Ford F150 lightning has a standard front suspension which lowers easily. You don't need any sort of kit to lower the suspension. You do if you lift the suspension, you're going to need longer control arms to get a proper alignment.

Only thing you need if you lower is the Icon Rear Camber kit with Eibach.

Completely agree. Even lowering the rear 1.5 inches created unattractive and completely unacceptable camber

Thank you both @csukoh78 and @F150ROD for the detailed replies.

So it sounds like an Eibach rear kit plus Icon camber kit will suffice for a 3" drop? Do I really need to do the front too?

It depends. Do you want to level the truck and make it look more even or do you want to lower the truck in which case you'll have to do the front suspension as well.

As a truck it makes sense to keep the suspension high. As an electric vehicle it makes sense to keep the vehicle as low as possible. So you have to ask yourself, are you going to be doing bona fide truck stuff more often or using your vehicle as daily transportation, light lifting, things like that?

Also, the icon suspension is fully rated for the same as the stock suspension so you don't have to reduce the amount of weight you can carry.

I don't anticipate doing real truck stuff ... main thing is I wanna add a lightweight camper on the back and still be able to fit into a parkade

Yes, I would recommend you do the front. The rear shocks and springs have different spring ratings than the front which would most likely result in poor ride quality.

Or you could go with just the springs front and rear keeping the stock shocks but just know that those will wear out sooner.

Either option you have to get the Icon rear camber kit.

@F150ROD do I understand correctly that you did not lower your Lightning, but lifted it? i.e. you don't have actual, direct experience with the Eibach lowering kit? I'm concerned as I've come across some other reviews of the Eibach lowering kit as having a really rough ride.

No experience with their lowering kits on the truck side. But plenty on the Sport Compact side with their lowering springs. Their spring rates are on the tame side to keep stock spring comfort. The shocks for lifting and lowering are the same so I think I have an idea of what the ride will be like.
