🤔

It used to be the case when CarPlay took over the whole screen, that “app” would take you back to the onboard OS. Looks like something different is going on here.

Would be nice if we could search for a destination on the phone and just send it to the truck. Does. It seem like that would be too hard to implement.

That used to work when I got my Mach-E in 2021, but Ford removed the functionality.

The Ford Pass app is much better than the onboard navigation for finding chargers. Not sure when they added the feature but you can now send the selected charge destination to the map app of
your choice.

This is what I need on the CarPlay screen. I don't want to be using my phone while driving.

It does seem crazy, not to mention unsafe, that Ford forces you to your phone while driving for this functionality instead of allowing the app on the big screen in the truck to do it!

Huh.

I absolutely love my Lightning, but I think all Ford software sucks. Thank god it supports CarPlay. I use Apple Maps for 99% of my routing (and of course manage my music through Apple’s app on CarPlay). It will never happen, but Ford would’ve been light years ahead had it adopted CarPlay Ultra and just turned all the screens over to Apple.

Android auto does this and I love it.

Funny thing is that finding nearby chargers actually used to be on the big screen and then they killed it for some reason.

I completely agree Ford Software is terrible (as is most OEM car manufacturers) but there is not a chance in hell I would want Apple controlling the vehicle software. CarPlay is as much integration as I want to see,but additional functional access via the CarPlay interface would be welcomed.

I’m not sure why people’s experiences are different from mine. I actually had a public charge app appear in the latest update. It will suggest going to the Ford App but alternatively has a button that will send you straight to the find chargers in Ford’s navigation system.

As I've said elsewhere I think the 3rd party apps and navigation functionality is overrated. Sync4 isn't perfect but in the year and a half of having my Lightning it has improved well enough that it can be fully relied on.

Most of the necessary data and information is on SYNC4, just need to optimize UI and take out some of the granny controls for adding addresses and selecting destinations (such as chargers).
