Over the last month i been trying to download the frunk update . It did partial download and go no where ever since. I stop at my local ford dealership (ford country Nevada) where I purchase my 22 lighting and my 22 mach e and the service writer said that he can’t help me unless I pay a $200 diagnostic fee. Is there anyone that can direct me. I am semi technical but not as good as I once was now that I am 77 old . I am past the 36 month bumper to bumper warranty by 3 month . I have 7600 miles on the odometer. I did try calling ford they said take it to a different dealer but that a good distance away . Any ideas is appreciated .

How old is your 12V battery? If original, that could likely be your problem.

I have a '22, and had initial trouble with the frunk update. Called ford they said my 12v battery was less than 80%. Hooked up the battery charger for an hour and later the update happened w/o issue. Ford tech call was very quick telling me the issue. If you didn't get the same diagnosis, then your issue could be different. Note: ford tech support couldn't recommend that I hook up a battery charger to the 12v battery because, in their words, "I am not a mechanic". Guess it was a CYA move. Good luck!

All they will do is charge up your 12v battery above 80 or 85% and install the update, but they have overhead costs.

Spend a few less bucks on a trickle charger and let your 12v battery charge up then try the update again.

If your battery will not get up to the required 80-85%, then it's time for a new battery.

I keep mine on a trickle charger when not using the truck, 12v lead acid batteries prefer to be at 100% for long life.

I put a small hole in the plastic under my charge port door and ran a wire to my battery terminals - the negative downstream of the BMS for convenience. Also if you battery gets too low, a b-word to open the frunk and trickle charge it.

The blue circles are where to connect a trickle charger - they are 6 mm screws with enough room for ring connector and 6 mm nut.

I used something like this with a 5ft cord and a fuse for safety.

That's a cool idea. Also means easy access for a jump pack if the 12V is too dead to release the frunk, yesno?

Well as long as the current rating of the wire/plug is not exceeded. It is 10AWG but they are for trickle charging not jump starting the truck. Beside being 10AWG there is the question of insulation, these are not heavy-duty jumper cables.

A typical vehicle can have a surge current to start of upwards of 150A - but that is to crank a big engine. I am not sure what the amperage required for the frunk is, so I would say use caution and just trickle charge with this set up!

EDIT: it is probably NOT a huge current draw to open the frunk - I looked for it, but no luck. Some estimates are up to 15A draw for the 'in rush' surge of the motor starting but that's a guess.

I was not even contemplating trying to run the frunk movement. Literally just enough volts to wake the truck and get the HVDC to 12V converter to start carrying the load. At least that's my theory after only owning the truck for a few months. I'm still thinking about it with the knowledge I had about my Chevy Volt, but it could be different for all I know.

Someone ought to see if a scanner can tell us, or put an ammeter on the motor wire.

Oh, ok I assumed maybe that was what you meant.
If trickle charging the battery doesn't wake the truck up, then a new battery is in your future.

You can post in the FDRS thread and see if someone is in NV close to you and willing to install the update. Beats waiting/crossing your fingers or paying Ford $texas just because their update process sucks.

I had an update fail and kept waiting for it to reload. when I called support she mentioned that my modem was not connecting, but that I should just continue waiting for the update. On a hunch I pulled and reconnected the modem fuse. It reconnected and immediately downloaded. Not saying that’s what you’re experiencing, but might be worth a shot.

I also have a ‘22. What is the problem that the update fixes?

I am the original poster .
I check my 12 volt battery with my Fantak charger and it at 95% charge . So that not it . I use the connect on the left side of frunk . Easy to remove the left frunk liner . I use as not able to disconnect and reconnect the battery because it looks more complicated to get to it . It looks like you have to remove the full frunk liner. This is more than I am comfortable with . Still stuck in the middle of the frunk update . Someone mentioned removing and reinstalling the modem breaker but which one and where . Still looking for help

i have 22 original owner. i had exactly the same issue. i hooked it up to a trickle charger over night while the hvb had been charging for an hour before starting the update. all the tricks they told me on here. nothing worked. battery tender was reading 12v the whole time on the charger. i replaced the battery and that same update, updated with no issue.

It’s actually easier to get to the battery than those jump points. No clips. There is a door at the back of the frunk. Has a picture of a battery on it. Just lift the door up about an inch or two until it unclips and pull forward. Use a 10mm wrench to loosen the negative terminal and lift off.
