I got into my truck this evening and when I put it in reverse to back out of the garage it surged and the lost power and I got a gold wrench. It states that there is a powertrain/four wheel drive fault and to contact the dealer. Has anyone experienced this before? I have 23 Lariat ER.

Very likely yours is also the shifter - I swapped mine out for a rotary dial 3 weeks and 3k miles ago and bada-bing no more errors!

Ouch. I'm guessing you were out of warranty? No issues for my 2023 yet (warranty for a few thousand miles still). I have the rotary shifter sitting on the shelf if/when it goes.

It started when I had 43k miles, and I swapped it out at 49k miles. I have Ford ESP for 4yr/150k miles but chose a $200 deductible and the cost of the custom base and used rotary shifter was $160. I didn't want to have another one of the same shifters installed as I've seen posts by others that they'd gotten a replacement and encountered the issue again, so I decided it was better to go with the rotary shifter which I hope will be more reliable.

Mine was a shifter. But if your issue is accompanied by actual power loss, it's not the shifter, it's probably a bad battery module.

It ended up clearing itself up overnight. When I tried it in the morning it was fine. I did shift it quickly into reverse which caused the initial issue.
