I know this has been talked about. But I have a legit question regarding it. I recently swapped the stock shifter for a rotary shifter. It’s been working fine. Today I was backing out of a spot. Put it in drive (maybe a little premature I’d admit) and bang. Got the wrench. “Powertrain malfunction reduced power.” Scheduled a service for next week. Do I put the oem shifter back in place? Did this happen because of the rotary shifter? Will putting the OEM shifter back clear this?

Couldn't hurt to try the old shifter just to see, if it works then no trip to the dealer.

Any limit to power showing, like 60%? Any charging problems? If not, more likely to be shifter, but there are other weird things that can turn on the PM/RP.

If you’re still under warranty Yes. If you’re not No.

I doubt seriously the shifter is the problem. But will be watching to see the result.

Well I was on my way home and the truck was off for a few hrs and now there’s no wrench/warning. It seems to have cleared itself. I guess we’ll see what tomorrow brings.

Was the outside temperature extremely hot? I had the wrench appear in really hot high 90s weather, but not since then. Dealer said to come back when the wrench symbol is visible.

The warning you got is equivalent to a check engine light. Check with your dealer for codes uploaded to the server.

Since the warning light cleared itself, I was going to cancel the appointment. Everything seems to be working normally. Drives fine.
