I tried searching the site, scrolling back through thread titles, but did not see a thorough discussion of this. Feel free to link to old threads that might I might have missed....

Anyway, my '22 Lariat ER that I have had since mid June has a weird behavior with the Pro Power Onboard. The master switch on the Pro Power Onboard + cabin outlets turn themselves on without being commanded to. I have watched for any kind of pattern in when this occurs (something plugged into 12V, USB, rough road trips, climate start from FordPass app, etc), but have not found any. It seems to be only the cabin outlets that have a mind of their own, not the frunk or bed. Everything works as expected if any/all outlets are in fact on. If I manually shut off PPO from the touchscreen, sometime in the next maybe 5 power on events the PPO will have re-enabled itself for no reason.

Dealer checked for codes when it was in for the frunk latch, tech response was no codes or faults found.

So two questions:
- Who else is experiencing PPO turning itself ON (not off) uncommanded?
- Is there anything I can do to prevent this, troubleshoot it further, etc?

Thanks

It doesn't use any appreciable energy unless there's something plugged in, so I just don't worry about it.

Agreed it's not much draw. But it does cause a message about slower charging rates with PPO on to come up on the touchscreen. And with how slow the UI is that's quite a few seconds that it takes to come up and actually be dismissible....

So yeah, first world problems to be sure. But I'd like to understand what the truck is doing and why.

PPO turns itself on when any outlet cover is lifted, right?

I haven't found (or seriously looked for) the logic of it turning itself on.

This has been massively discussed here. The PPO will turn off in six minutes unless there is a noticable load. One person did quite a bit of testing about found that a 100 watt load for a couple seconds every five minutes was enough to keep the PPO on.

I am not asking about keeping PPO on once it has been intentionally activated. I am asking about why it turns itself on, uncommanded, after being specifically turned off on purpose.

I understand your annoyance, as it may be less about whether the ProPower is 'ON', or not, and the fact that the truck constantly annoys us with 'alerts' on the screen, or even DISABLING a shift into Drive simple because you haven't responded 'Yes' to it's question about 'knowing' that you have something plugged into one of the bed outlets, or that the Frunk 'cover' is Open... etc.

yes, annoying... I'm not even sure WHY these alerts are needed, or who thought that we owners don't ALREADY know what's going on with our own vehicles. I don't care if the Frunk or bed outlet covers are open, or whether something is plugged into one of them... unless I have something plugged in that is OUTSIDE of the truck, itself - where I might then run over an extension cord, or worse, pull something as I start to move... yes, I guess that makes sense to 'alert' us... but, why can't it just be an alert, and NOT require a response? Oh well. I feel your pain.

23 Lariat, My cabin outlets seem to be on by default at startup. I often turn them off on road trips and after every DC charging session, they seem to turn themselves back on when I press the Start/Stop button to re-enable the truck.

I see you edited the original post. Yes, the cabin outlets always come on a start up. I'm actually taking advantage of that.

Key Cycle switch on/run activates the main PPOB system switch to on.

Now, if you turn them off, and there is no additional key cycles [push start] that would be odd, I don't know what would trigger it on again.

Yes, I have seen a message about propower and the threshold, could not figure it out but I went to the menu for PPOB and changed/lowered the shut off threshold level as I recall, so no more annoying irrelevant messages about it.

Coincidentally, I recently noticed the same behavior in my ‘23 Pro as the OP. It isn’t a big deal, but one would think shutting off PPO would keep it off, but not so much. The screen alerts are the main annoyance, tho I read somewhere that the inverter does pull a little bit of power when ON without a load.

My 22 Lariat SRs 9.6 is always on too, I turned it off again yesterday it keep turning itself on . And then if I run the battery down past 40% it sends me a warning saying it’s gonna disable pro power on board.. no codes in mine either I’ve had mine since December it’s been doing it as long as I can remember kind of annoying, you shut it off and it turns itself right back on within a minute or two.

Always or always when the truck is turned on? Big difference between the two.

Hmmm, I'm not sure what the problem is here. I mean, so what if the outlets are active? Why is this a problem? You don't have to use them after all. The outlets in your home have power supplied to them all the time. It would be quite inconvenient to have to go to your panel and close in a circuit breaker every time you needed a hot outlet. I have the opposite problem.....Wish the 240v power would come on automatically. I want 240v power available in the bed all the time....not have to go through machinations to get it to work.
