Long time Ford Owner... First time Ford borrower from friend...

About to undertake a road trip and I hit the Public Charging app on the Sync screen in my buddies truck and this is what I get.

Ford F-150 Lightning Public Charging App Broken??!! 1000031704

It's cool, I'll click advanced and be on my way since they fired the interns that pay the SSL Certificate bill...

Ford F-150 Lightning Public Charging App Broken??!! 1000031703

Nope. F***! Is there a fix? A work around? This is gonna make this trip so much harder.

Anyone know a fix? I already miss my Tesla.

most of us don't use the onboard Charge screen, we use the much easier FordPassAPP... and, your 'friend' can share that APP and the charging ability via Ford Blue Oval, too...

regardless, even if you had no onboard onscreen option, and no FordPassAPP, you can still simply PLUG IN to any ElectrifyAmerica, or Tesla Supercharger('OtherEVs' capable locations), and it will start automatically.

If you find yourself in need of other brands, they will all have their own APP, or 'QR code' to scan, or Credit card swipe method....

and, you can easily use GOOGLE MAPS to find DC Fast Charging locations, or use the Location Finders within each individual brands APPs, such as Chargepoint/EVgo, ElectrifyAmerica, Tesla, etc.
or
even easier, use PLUGSHARE's app...

Got it. Don't use the app Ford put there, download more apps and use them on Android auto.

Not sure why I thought he could hand me a car key and the vehicle would just work... It's just an F150 after all, right??

It works. Ford deprecated the Public Charging app because everything it does is available in the navigation app and/or FordPass.

Ask your buddy, he should know it's been phased out.

He didn't know. He uses his truck locally and didn't know that app at all.

I guess I have to install an app (Ford pass). Then I have to get him to add me as a user to not factory reset his vehicle like FordpASS wants me to do.

All because an app on the truck doesn't work. That's retarded.

Oh, and I figured out the app. I had to disable auto time updates, restart sync, then re enabled auto time updates. The truck thought it was Monday so there was a certificate mismatch.

The app now works, but I can't use it while driving and without signing in with a QR code.

I agree that Ford removing the public charging app was dumb and poorly executed, but I'm confused how this makes your trip harder? You don't need FordPass to charge, or find chargers.

yes, you don't 'need' any of that, though it sounds like you are spoiled, coming from the software compruter, with wheels, called Tesla... other companies didn't 'start' as a software program, they are just doing the best they can... that other company is not perfect, either.

maybe a 'gas' F150 is a better option

No reason to use a term like "retarded" when it's the user that lacks the knowledge.

You don't need to install FordPass. You can use a Tesla Supercharger, with an adapter, and the Tesla app. You can use EA with the EA app.

This thread prompted me to look into Android Auto for EV charging on the Lightning.

On first impressions. I like it. Looks pretty good. It's quick and speedy. Has good info on the chargers. The time to charge estimates look accurate. Time to arrive at destination with charging looks right. Can change the battery % on arrival. Glad Android Auto reports the truck's battery %. I could see myself using Android Auto on the Lightning for EV route planning.

An app on the truck, that is there to do one job, that doesnt do that job, is dumb. That isnt a user knowledge problem, aside from this forum I have recieved NO notification from Ford, folks should not have to follow internet forums for this. If its there it shoukd work, if it doesnt work it shouldn't be there.

I certainly agree, in fact its insulting to imply that its a user knowledge problem when like you, I have never received any notification that the app was now inoperable. Imagine my surprise this weekend taking a trip, which we rarely do, to find that my desire to navigate to a charger and precondition via this app, which we have used several times before, no longer works.

Its insanely frustrating for dumb shit like this, it is not that hard. Do I need the app? Absolutely not, did I know exactly which charger I was going to go do long before my trip? Yes. That is NOT the point. If the truck has the app, it needs to work or if there is such a half assed attempt to render it useless, then send a notification.

Today to operate the truck over a span of only 500 miles, I needed:
The key fob
A smart phone
A FordpASS account
An invite to FordpASS from the owner
An Evgo account
A Tesla Account
Turns out that GM Ultium powered by Evgo needs a different account... So a GM Ultium account
A credit card despite having one saved in My phone
NACS to CCS adapter

Optional: Read the Internet forums to know about installed apps that aren't actually available.

PPS: It's not like this is my first forray into the Ford EV ecosystem. I owned a Lightning since launch up until March of this year. What I experienced today is what all of the EV naysayers are complaining about. And they're spot on.

Can't wait to hitch up a trailer tomorrow and go another 650 miles.
